I use the wifi at home mainly as well and it became a pain to have to reboot the phone to get the bloody thing to work often even once a day.

Can't say I've had that problem, Steve.

I've not delved to far into it so not sure whether it's related to firmware baseband or hardware version on a jailbroken phone.

I'm on 4.1, Modem Firmware 05.14.02.  Could it be an app, I wonder?

Steve

I can't recall the Modem Firmware but it may well be the MiFi app that causes the issue, that particular app is the one that creates the wifi hotspot the main reason for my jailbreak.

Ah...  I don't use that.  Modem Firmware is in Settings > General > About.

I think in the past I have used 05.14.02 obviously with 4.3 I've moved on to 05.16.01

Has anyone else noticed a huge power consumption increase with the iphone 3GS since the update? My phone was fully charged this morning, and I've just had to put it on charge as it was on 15%  :o

As I was in work, I barely used it all day, which is normal. Normally I'd have around 56% battery life left by the time I return home. This is over double the usual use, with nothing changing at my end other than yesterdays update!

Today I left for physio at 9am with 100% battery life. I got to work at 10am and had 56% and now I have 39%

I have not used the phone during this period. What the hell has changed?

Now on 29% and I have wifi off and Bluetooth off. In fact the only thing I have enabled is 3G! All I've done since last posting is browse the net.

AWFUL update!

Quite odd that the link above says it's having an app open when updating that causes files to corrupt. I always have everything turned off when updating, just to be safe. Others are posting the same too, along with others that haven't had any joy with the troubleshooting.

I'll have a go when I get home. Currently on 18%!

Not noticed any issues with IOS 4.3 on my 3GS battery life hasn't changed as far as I can tell.

I've got an iPhone 4. Since lunchtime when it was fully charged it's only dropped to 79% with a few calls and texts but also it's been constantly searching for a signal where I've been as it's a bit of a blackspot.

I've just done a reset and it's currently installing the backup, which according the Apple forums, is what solves this issue. I'll see if it needs the new update again (which I assume it will) and after installing that, I'll unplug it from the PC and see what it's like in the morning.

Looking through their forums, it seems that people have this issue with every update. It seems I've been lucky for the last 3 or 4 patches/upgrades/sidesteps.

Well it seems it hasn't worked. I've just checked the phone and it's used 31% overnight and just used 1% more simply starting to use safari.

Intact it's just used 2% typing the above via wi-fi.

I'll check their forums again ad I think there's something on there about deleting settings. Although I can't see why that would work as the backup would restore the phone to how it was previously!

Grrr.

Also the phone doesn't seem to pick up wi-fi as clearly now. I used to get a full signal in the house, even as far as 20ft from the house, but now I'm getting 2 bars 10ft from the router!

Which version have you got currently, a backup does not restore the OS only the apps etc, I'm guessing your still on 4.3 You can go back to 4.2.1 but not via the usual iTunes route you need to use Tiny Umbrella - google

I've just done a reset which oddly didn't work this time, so I've deleted settings, then all data and settings and am now running restore.

This is exactly what is suggested fixes it, but I'll have to wait a few hours now to find out.

Right, phone now 100%, all settings deleted then readded by restoring again. Now to watch the battery life vanish. Or hopefully not. I'm running out of time now as I have a lot to do before I go out tonight!

:fingers: I guess it possible for one system process or app to be corrupted during the upgrade and hog the iPhone's cpu and thus drain the battery.

Hmm, it seems to okay now. Still at 100% after 45 mins. Before it would have been at 85-90% by now. Yay. Sort of.

iPhone 4 here, no battery issues. Hope things are sorted out Niall. As to that link, every time there is an update to OS X or IOS I always wait and watch for the 'my battery is ruined, it bricked my phone, of my hard drive got destroyed' I know yours is a genuine issue, but its not universal as I see it, but the Apple fascists and fanbois do cry wolf so often on that forum...its quite funny really
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Niall

Yeah, everything seems to be in order. In fact, the phone seems to have a much longer life than before previous updates. I'm wondering if the previous update was where the problem started.

Anyway, I'm immensely drunk, and quite frankly am amazed that taking minutes to type this is even working. I have just found a youtube vid to sing to.

RUN FOR THE HILLS! RUN FOR YOUR LIIIIIIIIIIVES!
