I wonder if it will tell you in the system log when it does an update?
Use terminal and run this. more /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist

That shows the date of the latest update, if it says the 26th you have the older update, Apple have updated the lsit since the security update  came out, the latest date is is 1st June at 19:15. GMT To force your Mac to update just uncheck Automatically update safe downloads list in the security preference pane, then re-tick it, and run that terminal command again.

Ta for that :thumb:

Someone on tbb pointed me towards xprotect, they'd picked it up with Little Snitch. I found an entry for it at ~9am today in the system log, unfortunately it was an "Unable to connect" error- it had chosen to update whilst I was re-booting the router >:(

Sod's Law strikes again...

So I'm still on the old version, I'll leave it alone and have another look tomorrow.

Rebooting also triggers xprotext, its part of the startup in the console logs Blll  :)

It's handy to know how to force it- I've found that if the computer happens to be in sleep mode when update time comes around, it won't re-try when it wakes up.

Could be a pain if you somehow get the update time set to the wee small hours!

Itunes Beta 10.3 available for download, not via software updater for me yet though...probably as its a beta.

Steve

As I understand it the iTunes 10.3 is not beta but some of the limited features of iCloud available in this release are a beta version if that makes any sense which it probably doesn't.

What's new in iTunes 10.3

Introducing iTunes in the Cloud beta. The music you purchase in iTunes appears automatically on all your devices. You can also download your past iTunes purchases. Where you want, when you want.

• Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.

• Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music purchases again at no additional cost. Your purchases are available in the iTunes Store on your Mac or in the iTunes app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.

iTunes 10.3 also adds Books to the iTunes Store, where you can discover and buy your favorite books on your computer and automatically download them to iBooks on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. This version also allows you to use Automatic Downloads with apps and books or download previously purchased apps and books from your computer or iOS device.

Unfortunately, no music yet for us in the UK, only Apps and Books. Bugger!

Niall

While that seems like a good idea in theory, what if you have bandwidth caps? You'll be downloading the same files across a network. Someone that has a mac, iphone and ipad would download things three times with each purchase.

All ok here, a prior update addressed the Mac Defender already nby updating the definitions every 24 hours in X-protect. All seems fine here. Not sure if there were any more updates to the new three aerial Airport card in my mac but it seems to grab the wireless faster.  :thumb:

Possible- I get the impression that items start up in a different order to before.

Previously, the wallpaper would come up and then almost immediately dim as Shades loaded in, now Shades starts up pretty much last :dunno:

Maybe something to do with the MacDefender check?

I've got that on the MacBook, but not the iMac... Shades is handy because it puts a couple of icons on the menu bar that allow me to easily adjust either monitor without diving into sys prefs.

And it was free ;D

I tried shades on my other iMac, it works well but mucks up the colour calibration I found.
