line attenuation

since i put the new netgear in yesterday, i've been monitporing it's stability.
in stats i noted the line attenuation has fallen from 41 to 36 and the snr is slowly climbing to 12 at present from it's normal 6-7.

Connection Speed 8590 kbps 1052 kbps
Line Attenuation 36 db 9.5 db
Noise Margin 12 db 5

What is the SNR climbing from, specifically since the new netgear has gone in? Or what is the noise margin immediately after the router syncs?

It could be that your default target noise margin has been raised by the BT MSAN to 12db and therefore your line if it stays stable for a period of time could be able to acheive a faster sync. It could alternatively be that the router synced when there was a lot of noise about, and now the noise has subsided the margin has increased. A reboot would get the router to sync back at the default target noise margin.

For the attenuation to have decreased, the previous router must have been dying.

however at the moment, My pc is switched off all day, cause i'm at work. the router is left on 24\7. last night I couldnt get mails to download, and not get internet access, so had to reboot the router again, which is lowering my sync rate. it's now down to 6.2mb from 9 on sunday.

the SNR is bouncing between 9 and 10 every 5 seconds. the connection has been stable since the BT debacle when I shifted from sky. this new router seems to pick up more noise.
