Hello all!  My connection has been funny this afternoon - my PPP session hasn't dropped, but ADSL has re-synced three times while I've been at the computer (perhaps even more when I've been away).  The second time I went into my router and checked the SNR - refreshing the page a few times showed me it was bouncing up and down.  Usually both that and my connection are rock-solid. I'm on the Brixton exchange - anyone else experiencing this?

Rik

Hi Krysia

I've not seen any other reports, so it would be worth giving support a ring to see if there's a BT issue affecting you (there's quite a few at thee moment).

Thanks, Rik. I think it may be my router - Support says my connection hasn't dropped at all (and my router shows my PPP connection has been up for 7 days), despite my ADSL light flashing and my momentary losses of connection.  Strange!

Rik

Very. Can you run Routerstats? (That is, which router do you have?)

Hi Rik.  I've got a Billion 7402VGP VOIP router, which can give me lots of information:

Model Name    BiPAC 7402VGP
Host Name            home.gateway
System Up-Time    25 days, 4 hours
Current Time    Tue, 15 Dec 2009 - 18:51:27

Latency             Fast             Fast

Coding Gain            7
Tx Attenuation            DMT_0DB
DSP Firmware Version    E.67.5.33
Connected                    true

Downstream            8128000

Rik

Routerstats Lite doesn't support that particular model, but does four others, so might be worth a try:

http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/files/RouterStatsLite57-Setup.exe

QuoteElapsed Time            0 day 1 hr 51 min 42 sec

PPP Connection             Connection established
Connected time so far    7 days, 5 hours

Those two times seem contradictory.

You can say that again - they're impossible!

Rik

That's the puzzle. If support haven't seen any drops, it suggests a fault with the router. Do you have a spare you could try?

It seems to have settled down (fingers crossed), so I'll keep an eye on it - too much to do before Christmas to unplug everything and try my old and inadequate BT Voyager!  Thanks a lot for your help.

Baz - that looks like a noisy line resync to me - the multiple entries in a short space of time suggest the router trying to find something it can work with.

If it's been stable since - I'd ignore it. Otherwise, call support.

Have I lost my way?

Rik

Given the timing, Steve, the other possibility is BT work at the exchange.
