im still in the market for a new printer preferably an all in one.My daughter now needs hers back which i 'borrowed' for a while

what do you think of this one

quite like HP now after using one for a while, even though its a tad noisy and does some 'printer preparation' thing every now and then which seems un-needed to me.

I have that printer, Baz, replacing a PSC2410 as my network 'work horse'. It does get a bit whirry and clunky at times, but the print quality is excellent as is the photocopy and scanning. Ink costs are a bit higher than the 2410, but that's mainly because I had to buy from a UK source.

overall its good then Rik. whats the photo print quality like, which cards does it take.I just noticed that it has a photo black cartridge included. is that just used for photos or all the time.why have 2 black ones

is it easy to use

not a bad price too, £2 cheaper on Amazon

General print quality is excellent, Baz, with photo print being good, but not as good as my Canon ip6700. Partly, that's because the HP natively uses sRBG.

The photo black provides smoother grey scales, but it's difficult to judge if it gets used all the time or not - I'd say probably yes.

I haven't, but you shouldn't go far wrong. You can network wirelessly or with an ethernet cable, and the Bluetooth coverage seems particularly good too. All round, I've found it a great printer to have.

now you mentioned it Rik, I did have a little bother trying to get the laptops to see it on the network.will it work cabled AND wireless

cant remember how I fixed that some one on here helped

well thats what I thought with the one I have now but I have it wired into my main system and the laptops can use it wirelessly. will have to look into that

You're confusing two issues, Baz. The printer can speak to the router either wired or wirelessly. Any device on the network, can address the printer by whatever means they connect, the connection always goes through the router, so if the printer is wired, you can go wired to wired or wireless to wired. If it's connected wirelessly, then you can go wireless to wireless or wired to wireless. For many laptops, there is the additional option of Bluetoth.

cheers Rik. also where do you get your ink from for this printer.I use choice stationery but they have told me that compatibles are not available for it yet but may be on the way.Their 'Think' brand are good quality and good enough for my needs.

This may put me off this printer if its going to be round about £40 for a set of inks

I bought mine from Misco, Baz, as my usual suppliers hadn't got them yet. Make sure you buy the XL versions, they are more cost effective.

ok its sorted, ive ordered it online from Comet with a £10 off code...bargain at £89.collect in store 30 mins after placing order,pay in store .I had to go near my local store sometime soon anyway.

I have new views on Comet, so far any way

will let you know how it goes.

Unless you want all the bells and whistles, Baz, just install the drivers and the monitoring utility. The rest is just a waste of space, imo.

whats the monitoring facility for Rik.Had them on other printers and could never see what it did.this puts an icon on the task bar with something about cameras and stuff

got it set as not to start at the moment, hope it doesnt stop other bits from working

do you use the Web Printing part. seems a good idea if it works

The monitor just keeps an eye on ink levels, Baz. It's not essential as you can do it from the touchscreen or the web interface. I haven't found a need for the web printing applet yet.

Had a look at the HP Photosmart Premium but have just gone for the Canon MP460 at a smidge under £90 on Amazon.

Some of the reviews on the HP site suggest that the cartridges supplied with the printer run out really quickly and I didn't fancy taking out a second mortgage for a full set of XL cartridges almost straight away.

The Canon seems to get universally good review for print quality, but like the HP is a bit of a slouch on the speed front.

The HP user interface looks a lot nicer though.

good point Jaydub but I think most printers are supplied with 'starter cartridges' or a similar name.They are not as full as ones you have to buy later.Its a con in my eyes

I have had HP printers in the past but after changing to Canon (iP6700D) I would not go back. I use compatables from InkXperts (Wrexham) and find them great at a good price.
