Download speed seems a bit low - what do you think?

Hi everybody!

I migrated to IDNet about 6 weeks ago, and am very happy with the service so far - I have raised a couple of tickets and had them answered promptly :)

My connection is nice and stable but I'm a little concerned that my throughput is not what it used to be, and I'm hoping you guys can give me your opinions.

With my previous ISP my sync and profile were at a pretty constant 5.5mb/s, with slight fluctuations up and down.

Since moving to IDNet my download speed has dropped a bit, averaging about 3-3.5mb/s with a sync of 4538.

Here are the stats from my router (a Linksys WAG354g):

                     Downstream Rate:       4538 Kbps
              Upstream Rate:              1019 Kbps
              Downstream Margin:      12 db
              Upstream Margin:      7 db
              Downstream Line Attenuation:      34
              Upstream Line Attenuation:              20

Do you think the download speed I am getting is reasonable for these stats, or should I be getting a bit more?

I have waited this long before posting in case the line needed time to sort itself out, but it's been unchanged for several weeks now.

Also, interleaving is switched off.

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma:

The attenuation suggests you should get a higher sync speed, but your target noise margin has been raised, and that's costing you about 1.4M in sync speed. Are you noticing the router drop the line frequently?

Thanks for the warm welcomes! :)

Rik: No I haven't noticed any drops, it's been steady as a rock - just a bit of a slow rock ;)

Check with support, then. The target NM is usually 6db.
