Just reloaded Windows XP Pro, everything fine except for scrolling. When using the scroll wheel it clicks as normal but the page moves up or down in larger'gliding' bites of the page.

Have been into Control Panel and adjusted the mouse scrolling facility to no avail, have changed 'meeces' ;) again to no avail. Tried all I know ??? so hoping someone can come up with a solution?

Rik

Have you got accelerated scrolling turned on, Q?

Make sure on that wheel page that you don't have 'one screen at a time' selected by mistake. Also check the number of lines per notch of the wheel. Mine is set at 3.

Failing those suggestions you might need to see if you have a specific driver for your brand of mouse.

Good luck.

Yes Rik I did. Turned it off but no difference I'm afraid. :(

Rik

Get hold of a copy of TweakUI and see if the mouse settings there help.

Is it just when browsing, or all operations, Q?  If when browsing, there's a 'smooth scrolling' setting in Firefox.

how did it move before and what type of mouse do you have. You dont mean when you click the scroll wheel do you and get the auto scroll feature.

quandam

Rik: Tried TweakUI without success. :(

Simon: Was using Chrome, downloaded FF and adjusted setting again without success :(

6jb: Done those settings and downloaded drivers from MS Itellimouse site still with no luck :(

Thanks for all your efforts and ideas :thumb:

You have half solved it :thumb: With the MS Intellimouse can't change anything, but with a logitech wireless mouse having pressed the wheel down I can get the 'normal' reaction from the mouse for scrolling. This is not perfect as you can imagine but better than the annoying problem. Thanks for your help.

Rik

Have you tried a different USB port, Q?

The MS mouse is attached to the rear of the PC and the Logitech wi-fi dongle is attached to the front, both have the same effect :dunno:

Rik

Is the MS mouse also wireless?

No Rik, just the normal USB cable connection.

Rik

There goes another theory. :( Can you try the mouse on a different machine?

Delete the mice and let the PC find them again. If that doesn't work, delete all USB ports and hubs on the PC and let it re-find them.

Done that Rik. Both MS & Logitech work normally on another machine :hairpull:

Rik

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers?

Yep! Deleted everything and reloaded it, still the same :dunno:

Rik

I take it device manager isn't flagging the mouse with a yellow triangle?

For some reason the link is not responding.

Glenn

Strange, it opens for me? Take a look at the screenshot.

Technical Ben

Is is a new mouse? You occasionally get companies that don't have a clue how to make something, and come up with great ideas like "10 times the scrolling power!"
If it's win xp specific, I don't know how to fix it sorry. :/ Is it not under mouse options, scroll wheel?
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Tech Ben:

No, the Intellimouse was/is working fine until the old XP OS went on the fritz. Re loaded XP and found this problem. Tried a new Logitech wireless mouse and still had the same problem :dunno:

Glenn:

Downloaded Tweak Master and tried their suggestion, still no luck :(

Thanks all for your input. I'm waiting on a new hard drive for my 'other' PC and will just live with this problem until that PC gets set up, hope I don't get the same problem :eek4: I can always use the jolly old laptop if the scrolling problem drives me completely up the wall.
