Baz

what do you use for this and for image making, if thats the right word for it  :)

have an old Paint shop Pro but could not get used to it, found it too complicated

Rik

Photoshop, Baz. Long learning curve, but worth the effort for the results you can obtain.

heard a lot of good stuff about it yes, might take a look.  is it Adobe though?   ok?

me been tight....are there any decent free ones

Rik

GIMP, Irfanview...

Ultimately, Baz, Photoshop is a professional's tool. Photoshop Elements may be more than adequate for your needs.

I'm using Photoshop Elements 8.

It's so easy to use it's ridiculous. You've got nowhere near the control Photoshop has, but for photography it does everything I need it for. I'd HIGHLY recommend it to anyone.

Baz

Baz

.....so what about them been Adobe, any bother or not

Rik

Nothing wrong with Adobe's 'prime' software, Baz, it's the freebies which seem to cause problems.

Somewhere out there someone has created a patch that will unlock those parts of PS Elements, that are in the full version but simply hidden.  In effect you get pretty much the real deal but at Elements price.

I know there is one for the Mac version so I imagine there is one for Windows.

EDIT:   Found it here.

Rik

I must just point out that the forum cannot condone 'cracking' commercial software.

Will you condone me cracking my Corel Paintshop Essentials CD into little pieces? That heap of junk never worked on my PC and continually crashed. So did the corel software on the work PCs come to think of it. They were almost competitive with Adobe at one point, but due to those issues I'd never go back to them. I guess it's my fault, I should have got Adobe Photoshop Essentials instead. :(

Oh, and cracking is bad. Counts as copyright infringement as you are modifying the code.

Yeah I had paint shop pro when I got my first PC back in 1999. I bought a couple of versions after that, then they started having compatibility issues and other crashing problems, so I switched to Photoshop Elements for a while as I got it free with a graphics card, oddly.

Ah I remember the good old days when you actually got good software with your graphics cards, not just a game they are trying to lift the sales stats to plug a game engine.

It lost its edge when JASC sold out. :(

The good old days eh Rik!? I remember when Paint Shop Pro was THE program to get for images and art. Corel Draw was the best for vector work. What could go wrong when you combine the two?  :dunno:

Rik

Indeed. Corel Draw was a brilliant app, I used it in preference to Adobe Illustrator, despite getting the latter free, because it was more intuitive. JASC's Paint Shop Pro could give Photoshop a run for it's money, a very significant run when you compared the prices. Somehow, though, Corel lost their way. :shake:

Yep. Corel had individual buttons and tabs for moving or editing each lines point and handlebars. I think Adobe went the way of the Mac, which is "thousands of keyboard modifier buttons".
I think Corel tried to do too much. The suite had about 7 different programs in it, and half of them were bodged together. Instead of the Adobe 2, Photoshop and Illustrator. Saying that, both Apple and Adobe seem to be branching off into loads of sub categorys. Wonder if any new players will appear.

We used to chant the keyboard shortcuts like mantras. ;D
