hey peeps done a ping test from bbc and got back 38ms average with lowest being 36ms,just wondering how this fares with other peoples results and what an average result is from bbc.

Steve

Thats probably not too bad although mines lower at 20-25ms, its dependent on many factors such as exchange congestion, whether you have priority at the exchange, how far you are away from the server, whether your connection is interleaved or not and whether your adslmax or WBC.

not that im having problems with ping when gaming but is there adjustments that idnet are able to make to improve or prioritise ping?

im just asking out of curiosity just so i know in the future wether it is possible should the situation arise :)

Glenn

Home Super Pro is traffic prioritised at the exchange, along with 3 of the 4 business packages.

ok thanks glenn, have idnet upped the gb allowance on all the packages? if they did they sure kept that quiet, idnet being modest as always

Simon

It was announced first on the forums - here - and they also sent out an email to customers.  ;)

You may or may not have an interleaved connection, interleave is BT's method of reducing the amount of errors that arrive at your router and thus aids throughput if the error count is high. Unfortunately an interleaved connection tends to have higher pings times due to the latency induced by interleaving. To find out look here for more stats http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php, the stats may show FEC or forward error correction(interleave) or ask support.
