Hi all,
Been with IDNET for just over 3 years now, but never posted here, lol. Unfortunatly, my first post here is a negative one.

Recently, maybe over the past 3-4 weeks ADSL performance has been less than satisfactory, when it once used to fly along. It's really bad pretty much round the clock, and now I'm considering going elsewhere. The regular speeds I could achieve on this line are in my sig, but here's the results from BT's speedcheck website 2 moments ago:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1103 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 6400-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 832 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

And some info from my Router (Netgear DGND3300 V2):

ADSL Link Status: Active
PPPoA Link Speed: Speed 8128 kbps (Down) 832 kbps (Up)
Line Attenuation: 11.4 db (Down) 6.1 db (Up)
Noise Margin: 11.0 db (Down) 10.0 db (Up)

Any ideas? The speeds used to be pretty much as fast as you could go on ADSL Max, but not these days. The telephone exchange is literally 200 yards away as the crow flies, and I believe the line to be of a good quality, and it can't be all that long. I ran the test after a fresh router re-boot, but nothing changed on the speed front. I also re-booted our DNS servers and closed all connections to the webserver here to make sure the line was clear of activity. It still made no difference?

Welcome, obviously throughput is poor with nothing showing on BT Speedtest and router stats. Can I suggest you check your BT exchange status either via http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ or via support who will give you a more up to date answer. I've not seen any congestion issues with IDNet since the hostlink went live but there is BT congestion throughout the 20CN network see also http://aaisp.blogspot.com/ My advice see what support can do for you.

:welc: :karma: RCS2K4, from your post it sounds like you have an office connection, how is the ADSL presented, is it through a standard BT NT5e socket?

Thanks to the both of you for quick reply's. The line is going into our office downstairs, but this is a residential property. We just converted one room where I run my company from. There's 4 lines tho, so the NT5e socket can't be used. The socket at the wall has 1 RJ45 socket for connection to a modem, and 4 standard telephone sockets. No microfilters needed as the wall socket is the seperator.

The ADSL line is connected to IDNET's Business Premium, but it's far from it this past month or so :( Our webserver may as well be switched off with the pathetic upload speeds we get at the moment.

Thanks for the tips. The exchange shows clear on the first site, altho it did have a service outage yesterday (knew about that already, no broadband for a few hours). Congestion could be an issue, but I was under the impression we are connected on a lower contention ratio, and have traffic priority? They are supposed to prevent slow-down at peak times? Always worked in the past...

I do hope this sorts itself out soon. ADSL2 is 2-3 weeks away from activation now, and we are perfectly sighted from the exchange to achieve top speeds. Might switch to a good LLU if not...

Business Premium comes with enhanced care, see below. Call IDNet, they should be able to log a fault with BT, as long as they can see a problem on the line.

Broadband Enhanced Care operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including UK Bank and Public Holidays. BT will respond to a fault report within 3 hours of receipt of the fault report and BT will clear the fault within 20 hours of receipt of the fault report including out of hours engineering visits to site to complete a repair if required. (Whereas standard care offers a 40 clock hour clear within BT Wholesale with no guaranteed response time and no out of hours engineering visits available).

Can't add to the above, but  :welc:  :karma:

Do give IDNet a call, and allow them the chance to sort things out for you.  They are usually pretty good, and they won't want to lose you as a customer.  :)
