Last week Sunday evening I experienced a bout of disconnections with my broadband service.
The disconnections occurred every 5 mins or so give or take.  Due to the problem, the BRAS profile dropped on my line to get me a stable connection.
By the time everything settled an hour had passed and the end result  6500kbps throughtput which was shown on a btspeedtest.

I usually get 18000kbps.

I did raise the issue with Idnet via email detailing my problems to which they replied.

We are still seeing drops on the circuit, it is likely you have been put
on a banded profile because of these drops.

We will need you connected direct to the test port of the phone line so
we can test this further for you.

The test port can be found behind the master socket by unscrewing the
face plate. Please connect your hardware directly to this port and let
me know when it is there so we can test this for you.

I did as requested however by this time my line had begun to restore itself to normal.

This speedtest was conducted 2010-02-24 21:58:38
Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps):   1256
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 18559

I usually see a downstream line rate of 22000 Kbps.

Actually throughput from broadband speedtests including the btspeedtest is usually around 18000-19000 Kbps.

I managed to get a quick speedtest through namesco with the result:-

Download Speed: 15267 kbps (1908.4 KB/sec )   Upload Speed: 1077 kbps (134.6 KB/sec )

Things never really returned to normal from when I originally signed up to ADSL2+, however this is now the 2nd week in a row at exactly the same time where the disconnections to my line have come.  Once again my BRAS profile dropped and its taken 2 hours since 6pm for me to connect and stay connected in order to get some tests done as well as connect to Idnetters to make this post.

I'll add stats of my line as well as a btspeedtest.

Line Stats

Status:  Upstream rate = 715 Kbps, Downstream rate = 16278 Kbps

Mode:                   ADSL2+
Channel:                Fast
Line Status:            No Defect
Training Status:        Showtime
                    Down            Up
SNR (dB):       11.9              6.0
Attn(dB):        21.0             6.7
Pwr(dBm):       0.0              12.9
Max(Kbps):      18240           716
Rate (Kbps):    16278           715

BT Speedtest Result:-

Download speedachieved during the test was - 4608 Kbps

For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.

Additional Information:

Your DSL Connection Rate :7008 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 541 Kbps(UP-STREAM)

IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps

I've also checked the status of my exchange to see if there is a congestion problem and it shows no problem, all green.  (Btw my exchange is a 5 min walk from my flat).  So now I'm stuck with broadband at a 1/3 of the speed I should be getting for the next few days until the my profile sorts itself out as well a problem which has occurred once again at roughly the same time and day for 2 weeks.

If anyone else has experienced this please post your what happened and how you went about getting your issues resolved.

p.s.  The connection dropped again.  :shake:

:welc: :karma: Is the connection only dropping on Sundays, or is it happening on other days too? If just Sundays, do you have anything on a weekly timer?

Nope I don't have anything setup on a weekly timer and yes the line is still connected via the test socket.

The disconnections have only occurred on a Sunday evening around 6pm.  Every other day its been fine.

The connection has been solid since 9pm.

I wonder if any of you neighbours are doing something in that period? Almost any electrical appliance can generate interference, but I'd be most inclined to look for a heavy-current one, eg in the past we've found a treadmill causing the electrical noise. The fact that since is dropping places the cause as local, ie between you and the exchange, and it's not something which IDNet, or any ISP, will be able to fix easily. Unfortunately, you can't get BT out on a Sunday evening, and an engineer visit at any other time will just cost you £170, because there will be no problem showing.

I'd suggest you try another router, just to eliminate the possibility that yours is particularly sensitive to noise, and ask around your neighbours, to see if any are doing something in that timespan.

Installed new router, here are the current line stats.

ADSL                         Link Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    15801 kbps            444 kbps
Line Attenuation            14.5 db                    8.5 db
Noise Margin            8.1 db                    25.2 db

BT Speedtest Result

Download speedachieved during the test was - 6108 Kbps

Seems like it might take a day or two for my profile to restore itself to its former glory  :shake:

It will take up to 5 days, even then, with your target noise margin apparently set at 9db, you'll have lost some speed long term. :(
