Wondering if anyone here can offer some help, been a week without broadband! Can't take much more of cr*ppy mobile connection, need broadband back

Been with idnet for years wth no probs but just moved house (did the simultaneous transfer thing) and now can't connect at all.  Spent most of last night messing around with my modem/router but got nothing. Did a factory reset with the thing but gave up in the end.

Woke up this morning  to find router at least seems to sync ok (didn't last night) thought problem solved, but not so.

It's reporting data rate downstream : 7176, upstream 448,  snr : 15.6/26 attenuation 25.4/14.5

However the PPP thing won't connect, gives helpful message "CONNECT ERROR", checked username and password, encapsulation but all seems to be as required. Is there anything I'm missing? router has worked fine for years in previous house. Is there any new fangled stuff that would cause problems at this new build house? The router, conexant  PAE CE84, is probably pretty old (but like  say never had any trouble with it before),  anyone offer any advice? Thanks

Lance

I think the best thing to do would be to email support making clear that it is a no connection problem in the subject and hopefully whoever is working the out of hours support will pick it up and be able to check what is happening from their point of view.

It sounds like BT may not have updated the radius server correctly, so your login is not being accepted. Double check that you are using the details IDNet gave you for the new account, and if you still can't login, contact them for help - they will be able to see what's happening from their end, but possibly not till Monday, I'm not sure whether they can see the BT part of the circuit outside the office.

Cheers guys, sent an email to support before I posted here but still waiting for a reply.  Checked user/pass seems like hundreds of times but still nothing.   :(

I hit this problem a long time ago :)

remember password is lowercase.

also your new circuit is it adsl2+? or standard adsl?

might be router not compatible with 2+?  just a thought.

That was my thought, am I on adsl2... with an old incompatible router? I've no idea, how would I check?  I do get line sync so probably standard adsl, right?  I've discovered a router log, which says CHAP authentication is failing with wrong username password. Which has just encouraged me to try even more user/pass combinations.

Still no reply from support, does email support disappear over the weekend too?

Rik

A no connection issue should have been picked up. Did you make that clear?

Footnote.

IDNet tested the circuit and found no fault, they suggested trying a new router, we don't know whether that was done, but a connection was established this morning.
