QuoteWhat is the Web of Trust add-on?

Web of Trust (WOT) is the world's leading community-based, free safe surfing tool that helps all web users stay safe as they search, surf and shop online. The WOT add-on tells you which sites you can trust when using Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Wikipedia and other popular sites. Web site ratings are powered by a global community of millions of trustworthy users who have rated millions of websites based on their experiences. The free add-on works with Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and is a free download.

Comes as an add on for Firefox and a bookmarklet for IE/Chrome/Opera/Safari

Idnetters is listed (once) as safe and useful  ;D

Nope but it gets good reviews, the trouble is with the McAffee version peoples sites got listed wrongly, its not infallible could be open to abuse, but I think its a good idea  ;D

I take it all back, having checked the real world views of Firefox users its not so good, funny how that happens compared with the big internet reviews  :eyebrow:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/reviews/display/3456

This seems to sum it up

I feel MyWOT is a subpar add-on since it is possible to game the system when enough people with a certain political agenda write negative comments and ratings. It is more difficult to change the color rating for big websites like Facebook, but comments can still spread false rumours about a website.

"Some" MyWOT users seem to have a mob mentality of rating and commenting websites poorly which have political or cultural views they don't agree with or because their friends rate it down.

MyWOT seems like a popularity contest where big sites with a lot of fans get green ratings and better comments, and websites with very few fans or diverse traffic get more Yellow and red ratings and poor comments from disgruntled people. There seems to be no accountability since anyone can post a negative comments with a fake screen name.

I also read online it collects user info from MyWot add-on and there is no way to opt-out like other programs like media players.

Since uninstalling MyWot, IE, Chrome, and Firefox load and run more faster"
