Is re-training your firewall.

All I did was turn the damn TV on and spent the next 5 minutes telling Comodo firewall that the ATI Gfx drivers were fine and not misbehaving.

I missed the bloody program, now.

I use F-Secure Internet Security, and have had to do that many times, Steve, but their white list system has been getting better and better in recent years, and I don't recall seeing the firewall pop up more than once or twice since installing the latest version.

Well I was quite happy before with Comodo - after the first week it had learned pretty well. I guess I just forgot what a pain it was for that week.

Since I'm on a clean install, I'm going to try and keep it as clean as I can, which means not trying too many alternatives (which will only bloat my registry eventually, no matter how careful I am), so I'll persevere for a few days.

Yes, it's nice when everything is new and fresh, isn't it?
