Recommendations for email servers for windows 7 greatly appreciated.
Can't use OE of course.
Windows live mail seems a mess in that one sets up a folder, saves mail to it and when one next starts up the email prog the folder has vanished together with the email.
Mozilla I would like to use but it stubbornly refuses to acknowledge 'mail.idnet.com and smtp.idnet.com' God knows why!
Which leaves ....... your recommendations pls.

Isn't it pop3.idnet.com for the incoming server?

Or imap.idnet.com if you want to use a less annoying protocol.

Also I assume you mean e-mail clients. Thunderbird on Windows, claws-mail on Linux.

Windows Live Mail works well for me, never seen anything vanish or folders disappear.

This is so frustrating. Running mozilla thunderbird but cannot send mail & get the message smtp.idnet.com failed under the login to server.
Password is correct and all addresses taken from my IDNet email settings. Ideas welcomed folks.

This rings a bell, but a search didn't throw anything up. I have a feeling we had to put someone in touch with support because of this problem before, and my recollection is that it's something about TB that doesn't like IDNet's server names. I'll keep looking.

Have you checked your firewall isn't blocking it?

Tried every combination known to man including switching off firewall and I've now deleted mozilla. Set up hotmail with link to idnet email address whilst I go and lick my wounds.
Bring back OE, plain, simple

Sorry I missed this

You need to go into your server settings

So Tools > Account settings > SMTP > Edit and select No Authentication

I believe this is down to a change Idnet's side with the password authentication process

If this was the same problem I and others faced that is...

I connect to idnet's smtp server with no problems using Thunderbird.

pop3 server =mail.idnet.com

port 110

username = someone@idnet.com

Connection Security = none

smtp server= smtp.idnet.com

port = 465

Username = someone@idnet.com

Authentication = normal password ( from dropdown menu )

security = SSL/TLS
