1.) How great Idnet are had my n/m cut on Friday sync back to what is was.
2.)The most expensive routers are not allways the best. I was using a Netgear DG834N (surposed to be very good ) started loosing sync again same time every night.
3.) Cheap routers are the best for my line. now using a humble Netgear DG834G.No loss of sync
4.)YOU JUST CANT GET ANY BETTER THAN IDNET. (Yes I know that well and truly  now)

%***% Should have kept my mouth shut. %***%% thing has just lost sync twice in the last 30 min. I give up ,I like the higher sync but when my noise margins are higher they only drop my about 1 but when my noise margins were lowed they dropped by 6. Is there any router out there that might hold on to a low sync please ?

I have netgear dg834pn and my margin only drops about 3 in the evening.

Why not just give up Bill and have your noise margin set higher. Its not as if your line is slow when you have the noise margin higher.

I had the same problem with my frog modem when i first changed over to Max in the trial days when it first came out in our area. BT put my noise margin up to 15 to stable my line, then they found there was a fault at the exchange causing problems.

So maybe theres a fault somewhere or your line just can't handle the speed ?

But i'll warn you now, if you get your margin put higher, its very hard to get BT to lower it if your line improves! As i said, they put mine to 15 when i first went on Max and they've only just lowered it to 12 this month after i kept moaning.

The problem I had was that my line was sync at well over 5120kbps and I had a noise margin of 6bd. There was then a fault on the line (which I hope BT sorted out) and my noise margin went up to 9db but my snyc rate dropped down to just over 3000kbps which was a large drop. The wonders of Idnets C/S cut the N/M for me, and just trying to get the line to be stable again.

My line has been stable since the introduction of Max until BT did the DSLAM upgrade last month, Bill. Since then, it's been prone to bursts of noise and will lose sync on average every four days. Friday saw a particularly bad noise episode, margin went to -5db, and the re-sync was at ~1400kbps. I'm still waiting for the profile to recover. Using the test socket doesn't improve things, but I've noticed that twice, when my neighbour has been having work done on his line, mine has taken a walk on the wild side.

I suspect, as more people connect to broadband, and especially Max, we will all see more problems. What we really need is fibre to the home!

As to routers, it seems impossible to recommend a particular brand or model anymore, I've read so many conflicting results that I think it's now a case of trying different models and finding out what works best for you. :(

Is this normal or is my Speedtouch on the way out ? Its been up and running for about 6 hours and I had these errors.
CRC Errors (Up/Down):   0 / 4,349

HEC Errors (Up/Down):   0 / 3,896

Rik

The error count doesn't seem particularly high, Bill. I get about 200,000 FEC errors per day on an interleaved line.
