FTTC speed estimates are a lot less pessimistic now!

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 31st March 2011. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 28.7Mbps and upstream line speed of 6Mbps.

That is a lot higher than before for my line.  ;D

Still completely inaccurate for me.  >:(

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 31st December 2010. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 30Mbps and upstream line speed of 7Mbps.

Roll on December 31st!

MisterW

Yes they do seem to have got more realistic FTTC speeds although has anyone else noticed a drop in ADSL speed estimates once Fibre has become available ?
Here's my current estimates
QuoteYour exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 3Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 3.5Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 500Kbps and downstream line speed of 2.5Mbps.

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 31st December 2010. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 28Mbps and upstream line speed of 6.2Mbps.

Now the ADSL & ADSL2 estimates were 7Mbps and 13/14 Mbps before Fibre became available. My line is about 1.6km, has a D/S atten of 28db and currently synch's at 8Mbps on ADSL MAX.

So have BT reduced the ADSL estimates to try and push FTTC or is that just coincidence...

I only said "less pessimistic", not "accurate" :P  It's low for me too, but 31Mbps is a lot closer to the full speed I'm getting than 19Mbps was!

@ MisterW- yeah, I noticed that. The speeds it's quoting for ADSLx are about half of what I used to get.

QuoteOur test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 2Mbps.

Your exchange is planned to have ADSL2+ by 31st May 2011. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 2.5Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 500Kbps and downstream line speed of 1Mbps.

My speed at the moment is 3.5Mbps on adsl, so why do I want to upgrade to a slower speed. :eek4:

I wasn't referring to the FTTC estimate  :P

It's the ADSL2+ estimate that's been way off for years now.

Steve

According to the first link I can get fibre which is strange as the exchange is not enabled yet.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I always believed that the estimator used the 'actual' figure if a service was active on the line being checked i.e in my case the ADSL MAX should report 8Mbps ( or maybe 7 if it uses the IP Profile ), but it seems to not do that anymore.
Where they have got the line length, in my case, as being too long for a fixed 2Mbps service I've no idea ::)
Someone's being fiddling the figures if you ask me!!!

kinmel

My line will support up to 2mb, it achieves 4Mb when it tries  :dunno:

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

Lance

Just stuck my number through the checker in hope but instead I'm further disappointed as ADSL2+ has slipped for the second time in two months, from end of March to end of April to end of May. Fibre is still a dream  :(
