Afternoon All,

My dear ol dad has a problem getting on t'internet.  He's not with IDNet, but I don't think the problem's related to his ISP so thought I'd post here as you guys are usually pretty good :-)  A brief synopsis:

- he can't access web pages from either wireless laptop or wired desktop
- he can't ping google.com by domain name or IP address from either one
- he can access the router admin pages from both machines
- from the netgear admin pages he can do a DNS lookup of google.com and a ping of the resulting IP address
- he can access the internet using a different broadband modem

We've rebooted the router a number of times to no avail, plugged it into the main BT socket as opposed to the extension one, no change.  The problem appears to be in the router, but its odd that we can access its admin pages but can't get any further out into the wider world.

Has anyone else come across something similar?

Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions..

Al.

Hi Al

Have you tried a factory reset (paper clip in the back of the router)?

Just as I saw your reply, he phoned me to say a factory reset had indeed solved the problem  ;D  Thanks very much for the advice, had me confused, that one..
