I thought I would post this in a public forum as a warning to all potential subscribers.

Last night I received a renewal e-mail from Yahoo, ( who ran ASE) telling me that my annual subscription was now due. It is not a great amount, under £8 per year, so I renewed. An automatic e-mail was sent out with a receipt for payement and a licenec code.

After trying to update the licence, I was told the code was invalid

I started to do some digging around and it seems that Yahoo bought the ASE licence last year but are now no longer supporting it

But they are still taking peoples money  This must surely be fraudulent? The support page now just links to a general Yahoo FAQ page. The money is collected through a company called SWreg. I sent off an e-mail to them which they forwarded to Yahoo. I had a reply this morning. It is just an automated reply, requesting detail of e-mail address etc.

I will contact my credit card company to see what they suggest. Like I say, its not a great amount but if Yahoo are collecting lots of £8's then that must be fraud!!

Whatever you do, IF YOU USE ASE, DO NOT SUBSCRIBE OR PAY ANY MONEY

I had an e-mail from Yahoo this morning with new registration code that now seems to work.  However, reading round a lot of different forums, I dont think I will re-register again when it comes up for renewal next year.

I also use X-Fire but found the interface of ASE easier to use and track.  I may look at Q-tracker http://www.qtracker.com/  which looks to have a similar interface to ASE.

Anywya, ASE is back up and working properly, (for now).
