Hello can anyone advise me if the ps3 can output 720p over a component connection.  might be getting one and my tv gas no hdmi and the only connection I've got spare is component.

would like a new tv but not an option at the moment.

any help much appreciated

thanks

Steve

If the TV will accept 720p via component you should be fine, the max component out for the PS3 is 1080p for games and 1080i for video according to google.

my tv did 720p on the Xbox with no problems.

I take it then that 1080p for movies is only hdmi then?

Steve

Something to do with AACS only allowing full resolution (1080p) for video on HDMI/DVI

Games should be ok up to 1080p in theory.

Thanks Steve you've been a great help.  one more question if I may.  Will it do Bluray movies in 720p via component?  Sorry for being a pain, I just gave to be sure about this specific issue.

Thanks again

Steve

See post #2 it gives the list of max resolutions for DVD upscaled and BD movies i.e BD 1080i max for component
