For a few weeks now I've been having a problem with my email programme.

I'm using Thunderbird and when I try to send an email it pops up with a window which says:-

I get over it by unticking *Permanently store this exception* and then clicking on *Confirm Security Exception*

I feel reasonably confident that the IDNet certificate will be in order so I could I suppose tell it to *Permanently store this exception* but am reluctant to do so without knowing a little more.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi ayjay

You need to use the full server name that atches the certificate, in this case it is: mail.idnet.net.uk (rather than smtp.idnet.net)

Nice timing, Simon, thanks.  :thumb:

OK. Thanks, I'll give that a go, although the server name is already filled in when the window opens so I assume that's the name its been using for the last few years.  :dunno:

Doesn't TBird auto-configure?

Is that the same as what I said here,  or something different?

( I'm not very techy)  :blush:

I tried the address as given by Simon and it came up with this:-

I can still send and receive emails, but just not as easily as if it were working normally.

Rik

Yes, sorry, that's what I was referring to. What happens if you hit 'Get certificate'?

 According to Idnet's own support page for configuring Thunderbird the correct settings are

 * @idnet.com Incoming server: pop3.idnet.com  Outgoing server: smtp.idnet.com

   * @idnetfreemail.co.uk Incoming server: pop3.idnet.net Outgoing server: smtp.idnet.net

   * @idnet.co.uk Incoming server: pop3.idnet.net Outgoing Server: smtp.idnet.net

I would expect their Certificates to include those addresses

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

I use Thunderbird and have 'smtp.idnet.com' as my outgoing server and have no problems.
