Hi,

Just thought I'd add my FTTC experience

My old ADSL2 speed (since around 2006)A few days after I asked for my MAC code
from Zen (kid you not!)
5 minutes after the (very good) BT engineer
 switched me over to FTTC

The engineer knew his stuff and did his best to make sure I got the best speed (I am about 350m from the cabinet) by disconnecting an older no longer used extension that had previously been wired up (by BT) as a second master socket.

Am flying now but may need to upgrade my package to cope with all the extra downloading  :slap:

That's some performance increase, I'm jealous. ;D

I'm jealous of the original stats!

And, yes, this is normal for my estate. ::)

Very nice. Which router are you using?

2Mb/s here. I hope to have IDNet FTTC by 1st July (if BT don't delay it, again!).

Quick. Download THE internet. Then you can come around for tea and sausages from friendly Netters and let us all stare at it in amazement.  :eek4:
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Ok I've started downloading the Internet, although it may be a bit of a squeeze for tea and sausages. I've got as far as C and already the room is full of Aadvarks, Bears and Chicken Curry. Luckily I switched the Google safe filter on first as otherwise I hate to think what the room would be filled with

As for router I plumped for a Cisco/Linksys E2000 - mainly because its predecessor had got good reviews and because I was completely fed up with the Belkin I already had (worked when it wanted to). So far its proved to be more than man enough for the job.  I also liked the fact it could take DDWRT if needbe.

;D You wouldn't have enough space to put it all, Ed...

BTW meant to add..

1. If you're still waiting for FTTC, my cab was down as to go-live end of March. In reality it went live on the 22nd December.

2. It would be good to see a round up of router reviews / a poll of what people are using.  There are numerous routers out there very capable of handling ADSL2 speeds but may fall down handling VDSL. I had a hard time picking the Linksys - I could have equally picked a Netgear or DLink device but both had lots of "Oooh I wouldn't buy those" reviews against them (although I've had good experience of both brands before).

That's a common problem with equipment 'reviews', most of us have limited experience, just a handful we've used, and the negative experiences tend to get posted more than the positive ones.

I think one thing we have learnt though is if the router is a 10/100/1000mb model it can cope but some which are just 10/100mb may struggle.
