Well, looks like the time to take the plunge (to vista) is fast approaching (for me anyway) - im just woundering what my best option would be?

I have a XP Pro enterprise edition (legal keys etc etc) from a freind of a freinds buisness...would that be worth using to "upgrade" to vista, or jusy buy OEM? (looking to get Home Premium btw)

Thanks for any suggestions!

Well, the XP Enterprise is a useful thing to keep.Once you upgrade to Vista using this disc the XP licence is void and you are left with another coaster or shiny bird scarer.

So I guess you have to look at the difference in cost... OEM/Upgrade.

Personally speaking, I'd be reluctant to upgrade from an enterprise version. I'd have a chat with your friend of a friends business first as it could have consequences (from what I remember the enterprise version is effective pre-activated with the same license key for every install).

If I were you, I'd go along with the DorsetBoy's advice to go oem from scan, dabs, ebuyer or wherever you normally buy from.

In the past when I have upgraded I have bought a new HDD and used that for the new install. In that way you sill have your complete XP system untouched on the other disk until you're happy with the new installation. Only thing left is to decide which version you want to go for.

I'll be getting Home premium retail when i take the plunge as retail allows as many reinstalls on as many pcs as you own. Home premium doesnt have al the extra cr*p i wont need but has the stuff worth getting for vista!  :D

I think home premium is indeed becoming the most commonly used Vista version within the home market. Home basic just isn't worth the bother imo.
