The BBC reports that:

QuoteMicrosoft has withdrawn a software update for its Windows Phone system after it made some handsets unusable.

The problem appears to have affected a small number of mobiles made by Samsung.

Owners reported their phones crashing, and in some cases failing to start up altogether.

Microsoft said it was working to fix the issue and would send out a new update as soon as possible.

I wonder if Nokia are beginning to have doubts?

How will they update their phones if they can't start them? :D

Phones are usually in 'soft off' mode when a battery or other power source is connected so presumably it will be a forced reflash via USB.

You'd hope so. I suppose if someone didn't have a PC they could take it in to the local shop for a fix too.
