Help required with IE9

I have to access customers CCTV systems on line and it works fine with IE8 but has never run with Firefox or Chrome. With IE9 it works some times and then it takes a while to log on. On Friday I uninstalled IE9 and went back to IE8 and I was able to log on fine. W7 kept pestering me to upgrade to IE9 so I thought perhaps a clean install of IE9 would cure the problem but it did not. Any one with any ideas what I am missing.

Do they still have the option for legacy or IE 8 compatibility mode in IE 9? Although, I doubt that setting would swap from working/not working.

Sounds like a plugin is missing or needs updating ?  How exactly do you connect?

I use the iP address then a sign in box appears. I fill in user name and password which then opens a view window and thats where it all stops. I have tried compatibility mode and that makes no difference. With IE8 it runs straight away.

If there are no error messages Den that can help us identify what is happening perhaps a post on the IE9 help forum would be best?

I've tried all the browsers I can think of and the only one that has ever worked has been IE until IE9 came along. The other problem is that I really like IE9 and prefer it to all the others but at the moment I have had to go back to IE8.

Have you tried pressing F12 and changing the Browser Mode from IE9 to IE8?
You can even try changing the Document Mode to IE8 Standards.

Off topic, but if that is what it looks like, I'm sticking to FF 3.6. I don't even like FF4.

The address bar in FF4 is exactly the same width as it was in FF3.6. It is for me anyway?!?

What does the CCTV manufacturer say, or haven't you asked them? Have you tried other PC's or from other internet connections?

I have exactly the same problem, it appears to be an activex control compatibility issue where IE9 is less forgiving than IE8 was. I don't know the make/model of the CCTV system but the activex control that it tries to install is not trusted and cannot be installed. Haven't had a lot of time to look at it yet although I have tried lowering the security on IE9 but even so it still won't install. IE8 compatibility mode doesn't help, the only thing I have been able to do is use another PC that has IE8 installed - all works fine then so it definately appears to be an IE9/activex issue

You can have a full address bar.. right click on a tab and select "show tabs on a separate row"

I don't know if this will work but have you tried IE Tester? (IE10 preview, IE9, IE8, IE7 IE 6 and IE5.5 on Windows 7, Vista and XP)

The IE Tab for Chrome works really well so now I can use Chrome for the CCTV and still use IE9 for everything else
