I'm interested in giving WoW a go but was wondering if there are such a thing as WoW vouchers that you can purchase that give you x months subscription.

I know there is the free month's sub but that involves giving your card details and there does not appear to be an automated way to cancel and I don't fancy sitting on the phone for hours to do this if I find its not my thing.

.Griff.

Apparently they're changing the month subscription format so that it becomes free to play until you reach level 20 then the monthly subscription kicks in.

I'm not sure when this comes into effect but that should give you ample time to decide if you like it or not before you have to part with cash.

Or should that be, I'll keep my third eye open  ;D

I think this free level 20 thing is a really bad idea. There are enough gold farmers in the game now. This will make the lower level areas a complete nightmare!

I don't play it anymore, but I remember how bad it was a few years ago when you couldn't get any quests done in certain areas because of all the bots :(

My machine is completely clean so there will be no bots operating from it.

That is a game mechanic problem, not a customer problem (even if they are hacking/botting/farming customers). Basically, SPAWNING AN ITEM PER CUSTOMER, would solve the problem. But because they limit it to 1 per day, or some other stupid system, they cause the problem themselves. That's why I like guild wars. Each mission is self sustaining, but you can go to the "MMO" hubs they have all the other players. I'd like to see some sort of mix in the middle. Not sure if City of Hero's worked like that or not.

I would have thought yes, as you can get Microsoft/Xbox Points at Game. However, I now realise the entire point of the subscription is to get your CC or DD info to milk you dry. /rant
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Same reason why I've ordered a scratchcard for xbox live as its apparently a PITA to get MS to stop billing you.

I pay for 6 months game time in advance by credit card. In the past I've had no problem at all cancelling my account online via battle.net. This take about a minute and automatically stops further payments from being taken. You can however reactivate your account at any time and the game picks up from where you left off.

The alternative is pre-paid game cards of which I have no experience: http://www.amazon.co.uk/World-Warcraft-Pre-paid-Game-Card/dp/B000BPCILI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309885000&sr=8-1

Noooooo! Not the dark side! Come to LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online) instead - we have cookies & we have pipeweed - not forgetting the lore of the greatest low-fantasy books ever written!

Free to play (To the level cap if you are that dedicated) with no CC needed (AFAIK - I have a lifetime account), multi-month subs available, puchase expansions using currency gained in-game without spending real money. No bots (That I have seen/heard about in 3.5 years of playing). Very, very few goldsellers (I have had no more than 2 or 3 in-game mails).

There are loads of videos of both LOTRO and WoW on youtube and you can of course try them both for free now. I guess the same applies to both, level 20 (Still F2P in LOTRO but have to pay in WoW) is where it starts to get interesting!

One drawback (For some) is that PvP is limited to a fairly small area - there is no open-world PvP.

:thnks:

If you do start playing and need to know anything at all about the game, just ask. I would imagine LOTRO is similiar to WoW in that there are decisions you need to make in the very beginning that you will carry with you for the life of the character you create i.e. race, class, professions etc. It's worth taking a little time to research these areas before you start.

Thanks. I could not find those myself when googling. I've heard of horror stories with other MMOs. Pity a few bad apples give everyone a bad name.  :red:

I always used the card method, but via debit card. It worked for years for me with no problems. You just need to be aware of when you are due to renew, and to cancel in time (freeze the account) and you'll have no issues. Well, I never.
