SSD problems

Read a recent news item on Intel being able to replicate their 320 SSD 8MB problem that some customers have been complaining about.

Apparently the problem occurs when power is suddenly removed from the device.  The end result is that the SSD's capacity is restricted to 8MB from 40GB or more.

I think I'll be sticking with conventional hard drives for the foreseeable future.

I'm thinking in terms of using SSD on at least the OS drive of my next desktop, Ray. It will be an interesting experiment.

I think they are the way to go in the future especially for the OS, Rik, but I feel the reliability needs to improve a fair bit yet and prices need to drop considerably, especially when you can buy a 1Tb convential drive for around £40 at the moment.

I suppose they are ideally suited for laptops for a variety of reasons including the fact that they have a battery.

I've had one SSD fail on me so far which was something of a pain but as I've got a separate "data" drive at least I didn't lose anything important and the drive was replaced/upgraded under warranty so all was good in the end.
