ADSL2+ regrade complete, no sync rate increase?

Hey

So my regrade to an ADSL2+ service completed on Thursday and I'm a bit concerned that I haven't seen an increase in sync rate on my router.  From what I've read elsewhere people who have re-graded see an increase in sync rate immediately and the IP Profile increases over the training period.

So what should I be expecting?

Thanks
Ben

Current stats below:-
Downstream
Download speed achieved during the test was - 5842 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7126 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 888 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6286 Kbps

Upstream
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 741 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 888 Kbps

Router
Line Attenuation: (Down)44.5db (Up)24.4db
Noise Margin: (Down)5.4db (Up)9.8db

Rik

That looks weird, your upstream shows you have been switched, and with your attenuation I'd expect a better d/s sync speed. What router are you using?

It's a netgear DGND3300.

Some details below.

How's the router connected to the phone line, eg master socket, hard-wired extension, flying lead extension? What else is connected to the line?

Also which adsl modality is the router/modem using it should be ITU G.992.5 Annex M

The router connects straight to the master socket, there is some extension wiring from the master socket but only a phone is attached.  I'm using an adslnation nte5 faceplate.
Unfortunately the router EWS doesn't provide me with the modality information, I think i can enable telnet and get it though, will do that now.

Ben

Rik

Try removing the faceplate and plugging in to the test socket, Ben. Check your stats as soon as the router resyncs.

I wonder if BT have set the adsl2+ profile at adslmax, (but they don't usually do that without being asked), not sure how that would show up in the adsl info

It's almost as if BT have profiled the line to Max. This is one for support, I'm afraid, but they won't be able to do anything until Tuesday, when BT re-open.

The router is reporting information for G.DMT and also ADSL2 framing - seems strange? Normally I would only expect to see ADSL2 framing information unless I am mistaken  :D

TheDuke

Yeah.. I don't pretend to understand half of whats in that status stuff, but it does say ADSL2+ at the top so I guess it's supposed to be that way.

Steve

I think that's why we are thinking the adsl2+ profile is set at adslmax. What I'm not sure is what you see if the adsl modality in the router/modem is set to G.DMT

Given your downstream attenuation your current sync speed looks spot on to me.

jezuk1

#18
Agree, the sync speed you have looks pretty much normal for your line length / attenuation. Assuming nothing is wrong with your line then I'd say it's about 3 to 3.5km in length (reference 1 below). If you look at the fancy graphs on the reference 2 you'll note that beyond about 3km the difference between ADSL and ADSL2 tends towards insignificance. You only really get a significant speed increase for lines less than 3km (or those <about 40db attenuation)

In summary - your ADSL2 sync speeds look entirely normal  :)

TheDuke

Yeah, looks about right after seeing the graphs.

Steve

Kitz certainly is in agreement regarding the current sync although suggests a gain over adslmax of around 1500Kbps.
