I'm on the verge of ordering an SE Xperia Mini but am just wondering whether anyone knows if its possible to switch data on and off as I only want to switch it on when I need it as don't want to have to pay for a data bolt on.

That's handy.  I'm pretty sure you can turn data off on any phone, but it would obviously limit functionality, and a data bolt on would be much more cost effective.

Quite!  I think he may be referring to the Android app store.  :)

So long as you are careful but that goes for PCs and dare I say it, Macs too.

Rang to check my order status today and Data Select who operate the SE store tell me they can't find it despite me getting an order confirmation.

I told them to cancel and have ordered it from CPW instead.

Well, the Xperia Mini arrived on Friday but was a wee bit too light and found myself brushing the capacitive buttons on the bottom with my thumb and the mic position made me sound like I was mumbling.

So it went back to CPW yesterday and I have now ordered an HTC Desire which is more the size I'm used to, should be able to collect it from CPW on Wednesday,

pctech

Looks like CPW were discounting old stock and by all accounts HTC are stopping production and support so I think I'll let it lapse and save up for a Sensation.

I am still looking, TBH just concerned that if the device goes out of support they won't issue securtiy updates for whatever flavour of Android its running.

Inkblot

Much as I hate to say this....don't Apple continue to support previous versions of the iPhone? I have had 2 smartphones, 1st shipped with Android 1.5 but was upgraded to 2.1, 2nd (Current) shipped with 2.2 I think, I have since upgraded to 2.3. Whether further updates will be available I have no idea  :dunno:

Glenn

Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to bring all Android platforms to the same release state, but I would think that there will be a minimum spec.

I'm looking at the Xperia Ray as it is aluminium and is slightly smaller than 6700 although a bit wider.

O2 have it on PAYG but might pay a bit more and get it SIM free so not tied to network approved firmware.
