It's interesting that they're recalling such an old model.

Why don't they just replace the batteries, I wonder?

Can a user replace the battery in one, or are they 'sealed' like an iphone?

Good point, but presumably Apple could replace the batteries?  Perhaps it's cheaper for them to dish out new ones.

I've got two of these and arranged for their replacement over the weekend. I can't imagine they will have large stocks of this model I wonder if they will replace with new.

I guess the battery manufacturer will pick up the bill.

It's so sealed even attempting to open with specialist tools would crack the clips I would guess... Sending a new one costs you the price of an old model plus P&P. Repairing an old one costs the extra labour, old parts, quality checks etc.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Good old Apple, I sent off two 1st Gen Nanos under the recall and have received two new current 6th generation touch screen nanos back. :)

And he didn't even own one in the first place. Genealogy is a wonderful thing.  ;D
