The Cloud Wi-Fi for O2 Customers

Just got this in from O2.

From 1 February 2012, The Cloud Wi-Fi won't be part of unlimited Wi-Fi. If your tariff includes Wi-Fi access, or you have a Wi-Fi Bolt On, you can still use BT Openzone. And now you can also use O2 wifi hotspots.

BT Openzone hardly works and I've not seen any O2 wifi hotspots around yet... and all for the same price

O2 are investing in their own Wi-Fi network which makes sense as they have the BE backbone.

On a good day, with a good signal, I don't find all that much difference between 3G and Wifi on my phone.  I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it.

Trouble is, in my town, O2 doesn't have 3G but I can access the net via "The Cloud". BT Oz is useless as I can never connect and there is no O2 wifi in my town. So now their data bolt on is useless to me.

I thought the authentication was SIM based so you didn't need a password, have you spoken to O2 Customer Services about your OZ issues, Paul?

Its the BT Oz webpage that always fails for me, you get prompted to choose your network and then nothing happens.

You get no help from support on this, they blame everything else except themselves.

I'm also with O2 Paul and have exactly the same problem

I am now awaiting delivery of a Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray and I could have tested here but I moved onto a Tesco Mobile contract to get the double clubcard points so unfortunately I can't.

I've had trouble with BT Openzone, the main one being that many of them are in fact FON hotspots with a local owner levying a charge.  For me theCloud has been very useful, since we have it on campus (the Uni network blocks most ports except 80 and 443) and it is also available in the areas I most frequent.

The replacement O2 service requires you pretty much to surrender your privacy to the world plus dog and, the two that I tried had a range of around 4 metres outside the shop door.  Useless.

If you are still under contract I would suggest this is a material alteration to the contract terms and they should release you if you wish to leave.

I supposedly have access to that BTo thing with my mobile via vodafone. Recently when I've actually connected to it, it's just the generic page that tells you that if you had access you could use it. In work, which is 30ft from the exchange, if you're in a room nearest the edge of the road, you can get a 1 bar wifi signal from them for it. Good job I'm not paying extra for this service, as to date I have accessed it twice.

Correct it updated to 2.3.4, Sony say ICS in coming in April.
