So recently i've had a really poor connection. I wasn't sure if it was games or connection or router but I tried a different router and it wasn't resolved.

My speeds are 'lowish' but this is caused by my connection going up and down. On the speed test it showed something like:

____/--\__/-----\

Flat lining at the beginning then going up to a peak then falling again.

So I assume thats how my connection is right now. I've been getting sporadic time-outs accessing sites and a few times I wasn't able to connect to the internet from around 3am til I gave up waiting at 8am and it was up when I wakened. The green light still indicated a sync on the router.

I tried to run the http://speedtester.bt.com/ diagnostic test and it failed to run at all..

Try running it in IE and just keep trying, its known to fail sometimes.

Do you know if you are on a BT or LLU connection to IDnet, the reason I ask is that there have being some LLU problems over the last few days.

ErisTheGoddess

Package: Home Pro LLU

But I remember it started as time-outs in websites around september and its taken me til now to decide its an unmanageable problem, since I was blaming lag on individual pieces of software like browser and games.

Have you checked your DNS settings on the router and or PC, if they are ok then try open DNS or google DNS settings and see if they help with the web sites timing out.

ErisTheGoddess

Tried all three. No change.

The BT speedtest will not run on a LLU line, I'm not aware of similar test sites for Be LLU lines, only the standard speedtest sites.

Is it a wired or wireless connection to your router?

Have you tried running routerstats? Not that it will cure anything but you can see whats happening to the downstream margin, if frequent disconnects are present have you tried connecting to the test socket behind the master faceplate?

The router stats look pretty good to me , the downstream sync is as expected for that attenuation

I have no way of removing the plate. There's no screws or anything.

The app you linked seems to be a straight line. But actual performance doesn't reflect that.

Amusingly enough I have timed out 4 or 5 times posting this..

Update: Both the Noise Margin and the Sync Speed dropped to 0 for a short time.

I would speak to support on Monday and ask them to run some line checks, I expect they will find a fault.

ErisTheGoddess

Yes I still had problems at the test plate.

pctech

If the problems are still apparent when plugging into the test socket which rules out any internal wiring and is a straight link back to the exchange then its a problem for Openreach to fix and you won't be charged.
