More Routers.................

Hi,

Thought I would just put a quick post out above the above.

I have had one of these for nearly 2 weeks now (bought of ebay and ydrol) and for me anyway it is the best router I have had.

Being a DMT tweak nerd I have a Belkin 7633 and ST586 to play with and as it has been previously stated this untweakable hub is better at holding a synch than any of the above.

I have a long line with an Att of 58dB and see some wild variation at times in my downstream margin. This hub has me connected at my best speed achieved through the other two tweaked routers BUT and for me this is a big BUT

The variation in downstream margin has effectively ceased, it sits and holds 12-14dB constantly and no resychs or loss of signals etc etc, whereas both the other routers would see my margin drop to 6 or below etc. I can not expalin why the margin sits relatively constant now but the fact is, it does.

I am very impressed with it, 21 days of solid connection, no problems

Haven't looked any further but Speedtouch make a lot of the BT hubs.

Hi. These routers are made by 2Wire from the US. Linky. They have a very good reputation for working with poor lines. (Probably why BT use them.

) 2Wire only provide routers to telecoms companies so they don't provide any direct support. There is some info here: Forum.

A quick correction: When I was looking last year there was little or no support on the 2Wire site. Seems that has changed a little: Linky. There is some info (drivers & manuals) for the 2700 series but most of the FAQ refers to the 2701, I'd be very surprised if there were any great difference between the 2700 & 2701.

I managed to get one unlocked for all networks, hence why it works on IDNET

Has a very high wireless power level one which is I am told illegal to use, I however dont use wireless so cant comment on that side of things !!!

I am very pleased with it, as you say very good for long lines like mine

I have an attenuation of 59dB and BT checker said I should be able to get 0.5Mb!! but can hit 2.0Mb with both a tweaked normal router using DMT tool and with the unweaked out of the box 2wire router.

Yep, these generally come locked to the supplying telco. When I did some research last year it was possible to unlock most of the settings but not the VoIP settings, this might have changed by now.

As with many electronic items the performance is heavily dependant on the chipset, I'm pretty certain that the AVM FritzBox series of routers use the 2Wire chipset but don't think there are any other users.

The Draytek Vigor 2700 series is also a very good router for problem lines. The Draytek uses a different chipset (Infineon Amazon) to the 2Wire, the use of '2700' is just a coincidence.
