Has anyone any experience of trying to increase broadband speed by using TCP Optimizer via www.speedguide.net. It is supposed to tune and optimize your internet connection

I've used it, and achieved a 10% improvement in throughput (though bear in mind that I have a poor line, so tweaking can do more for me). It's detailed in this sticky.

I was in the unusual position of having a very good connection with a typical sync speed of 7.5mb but was only able to achieve a download speed result of approx 2mb/sec from the Speedtest.net and Thinkbroadband speedtesters. IDNET confirmed that I did not have a stuck profile etc and the connection should be providing +/- 6mb/sec download speed.  By chance I ran the speedtests on a friend's laptop through the same wireless connection and achieved speeds of almost 6mb.  After much research and manual tweaks, which made no difference, I downloaded and ran TCP Optimizer last nght and since then all speedtests have approx 5.5mb/sec:

New:
30 June 2007   5443.00 Kbps     378.10 Kbps
30 June 2007   5681.44 Kbps    377.31 Kbps
30 June 2007   5553.70 Kbps    377.79 Kbps
30 June 2007   5527.40 Kbps    378.21 Kbps

Old:
29 June 2007   1791.37 Kbps    378.33 Kbps

It worked for me and download speeds are noticably quicker.  I would probably recommend backing up registry settings first just in case by setting a Windows restore point.

As an aside I twice contacted IDNET about this issue and (as an ex-Plusnet customer) was extremely impressed by the speed of response and level of technical advice.

It's good to hear that you got a positive result for your efforts. I swear by tweaking, others merely swear at it. :)

I'm glad you found support to be as good as we all swear it is - it's always a good feeling to know that, if you need them, they are there for you with a high level of expertise.
