Idle thought sparked after chatting to an Open Reach engineer!
Direct to exchange lines, 1000's of them and absolutely no plans to do anything this side of the year 3000.
Engineer states I have 2 chances ...... nil and b*gger all, not necessarily in that order.
Comments anyone????

I did wonder whether you were talking about fibre or adsl2+ there is also mention of a Cornish solution

Not quite so sure - the BT project in Cornwall has been or is experimenting with solutions, mainly I think the insertion of a cabinet but for a lucky few, FTTP. It's damn easy to curse BT every time - been there, done that, myself - but from the 1950s to the 1990s I think a whole lot of shoddy workmanship and short cuts were taken by the old GPO and took some time to get out of the system once BT took over. (It was endemic throughout British industry - I was working then too, and if anyone wasn't aware of it they must have been going about with their eyes shut). We are now living with the consequences - nobody then thought that telephone lines would be used for broadband data (even, I think, Ofcom PROHIBITED BT from providing fibre links to cabinets from the exchange before 2005!). Cheapness was the mantra and I don't think any of us complained. Unfortunately still not too many of us are ready willing (and even perhaps, able) to pay the costs of putting it all right as quickly as some would like. BDUK schemes and the profits from the take up of FTTC have to fund these more expensive solutions - but with take up at seemingly lower than 10% on those lines where it's available, it's gonna take some time - could be a couple of years or 10 I'd guess. Unless someone has access to some money trees . . .

EDIT have you and affected neighbours signed up to your local County Council's BDUK survey for better broadband - you won't get a solution unless you make yourself known? Even then the EU has a target of funding for 30Mbps for all by 2030 (I think) - but of course we reject all that don't we?

Signed up a long while back re. interest in Cornwall' FTTC etc.
BT are very fond of the 'aren't we doing well hype' especially in Cornwall but I have noticed that all they do is enable the odd cab here and there and then have the damn cheek to announce the exchange is ready to go.
Helston where I reside is extremely poorly covered (about 2 or 3 cabs in total).  1 cab in Porthleven serves around 10 properties out of which 3 people have opted for the service Total waste of time and money yet BT
still have millions of pounds chucked at it with pseudo contracts for superfast blah blah blah.  :rant2:
Should I have posted this thread in the comedy corner perhaps? ;D
