Right. After what seems years of delays etc, I finally got IDnet Fibre Lite installed today. All is going well Broadband-wise.
Not so the internal phones.
I find that I can only get a line if I plug the phone into the main socket. My extension upstairs has a dialling tone but cannot dial out (or receive calls in).
Can anybody confirm whether the BT Openreach faceplate(s) that they install for FTTC actually supports internal extensions. Dummy that I am, I was focussed on getting the router configured and bb working and didn't think to check the phones before the engineer left.
If not is there a workaround?

Yes.

You shouldn't need to, it's part of the installation procedure for the engineer to check the phone AFTER the Fibre is installed. Doesn't sound like he did it very well... ::)

Agreed, in hindsight he was a bit sloppy. I need to have the front plate off and see what he's done/not done. I just wanted to check that it should work before playing about with the wiring. I really should not have to do it myself tho' surely? IDNet support appeared a bit dismissive. Call me old fashioned but I would have thought a second visit to put it right should be arranged.

Steve

I'm assume he's replaced the faceplate and cocked up the wiring but surely it's only a matter of  2 wires the correct way round into 2 and 5 on the FTTC faceplate.

Point them to this http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/aboutus/equivalence/downloads/Key_messages_for_GEA_FTTC_engineers.pdf . it's Openreach's Best practice guide for THEIR engineers doing an FTTC Install.
Page 7 says, amongst other things
QuoteRemember to reconnect and test
Check that all extensions and telephones which
were working before are still working now – and
show the end user that you have done so. If an
alarm is present confirm how it's connected to
ensure you reconnect it properly.

Just to close this out, yes, dumb BT engineer had put a couple of wires in the wrong place. All fixed now. If you want something doing right (ask IDNetters first), then do it yerself! ;)

Steve

Marvellous isn't, such quality!
