I'm just in the process of setting up a new windows 8 computer and having trouble inputting my idnetfreemail.co.uk email address. I was using POP3 settings on my old computer but quickly discovered that this protocol is no longer supported in Mail, so I changed to the IMAP format, but it didn't like that either.

Mail is supposed to be able to install the set up purely from the email address and password alone, but it wouldn't acknowledge them.

I really don't like the using the webmail interface, so would much prefer to use Mail if I can.

What might I be doing wrong? THX

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately it hasn't helped. I had already worked out how it was supposed to be work, however it is not accepting the information I have input. I am getting the following message:

We still can't find the settings for *my email address*. Providing this additional info may help. If you don't know this information, search online or check with your provider.

The additional information required is the IMAP settings, but I have provided them and still get the same message.

Thanks for the reply but again, I already had found this and it was not much help. I have sent a support query to Idnet, they might already know what the issue is. Thanks for trying.  ;D

I will report back if the problem gets resolved, or even if it doesn't, for the benefit of anyone else who encounters this problem.

That would be great, thanks.  Hope it gets sorted.

Well, I couldn't find an answer to the problem I had, no-one really seemed to understand what I was trying to explain, so in the end I decided to abandon Mail and download the previous Windows Live Mail to the computer, and it has worked fine. I used Easy Transfer to bring all my mail over and it has migrated all the message rules as well, which is great. I won't have to set that all up again.

Job done.
