Tonight on my main computer windows app store and most other apps will not run and the message says that there are files missing. Any one else had this problem? I know I can do a full refresh but that would mean reloading all my programs again. I am running a full virus scan with Bullguard just in case.

This can't be Windows 8/8.1 Den, surely?   ;)

Have you tried a simple reboot, or, failing that, System Restore?  I don't think that's as destructive as a full refresh.

System Restore is probably you best bet but I'd also check the integrity of your hard drive as you may have some corrupted sectors.

It says that no restore points are available  :dunno:  I can't even delete apps and reinstall from the App Store as it will not open the store either. I'm still doing a full antivirus check (50% after 2hrs).

When I try to open any app the message displays "There is a problem with (the app). Then it displays "Refresh".

When I press refresh it the says. "Some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery media will provide these files"

Change PC settings app will also not open so I can't refresh the PC settings. The only other thing I can think of is to borrow a windows 8.1.1 disk and do a complete re-install.  :swoon:

I'm not overly familiar with Windows 8 but in addition to 'Restore' there's also a 'Refresh' (NOT 'Reset') option that I think can be performed without a DVD which should preserve your settings and files. Someone with better knowledge than me might know the procedure.

Does SFC still exist in Windows 8? That might solve the issue if it does.

The strange thing is both of my other computers are OK and the laptop was updated with the same procedures as my main desktop. The reserve desktop was reinstalled a few weeks ago and I must admit is now very fast. I think I will wait until Microsoft Tuesday and see if the updates cure the problem. If they don't I will most likely do a reinstall even though I will have to redo all my programmes.  ::)

I had to download a OEM copy of Windows 8.1 and did a reinstall leaving files and setting in place. At least that was the theory, it lifted my email settings and removed my diary off Outlook. Managed to save all my emails but can not set Outlook up for Idnet emails so having to play around with moving my domain email to BT email. At the moment I can't play music through the Bose speakers so must check the drivers for my sound card.  :eyebrow:
