I'm posting for a friend he is too lazy to sign up to forums.

He is on IDnet 2MB 30GB package.  Currently using a Billion 5200G Router.

At first after picking up this router his phone could not make outgoing calls and incomming calls were full of static and just of a poor quality.  His parents replaced the phone with a new one.  He still cant make outgoing not sure if incoming calls have improved or not.  I expect this to be a ongoing thread so I'll let you guys know that tomorrow.

An extra twist to the story is that his new phone appears to be cutting his internet connection out.  ADSL light stays green and PPP goes out.

A further twist is that his phone company is currently talk talk who I know provide their own free broadband.  Could the two be conflicting?

He has tried two different filters (one was a spare and has not been in use)

Has anyone had any experience with phones/router conflicts in the past specifically that router?

Could talk talk conflict with a IDnet connection in anyway?

Thanks,

I was getting something similar to this, with a linksys router. Not quite so bad though, but it was the router at fault. It would be a good idea for him to borrow another router to try that first.

Does the router establish connection ok without a phone plugged in? Has he tried using the test socket to eliminate the internal wiring?

I'm not sure about talktalk, but I think the free broadband is only available on one of their LLU lines, and therefore he would not be able to have both broandband through a BT line and talktalk. I could well be wrong on this though.

Hi Jonny

Like Lance, my instinct is to try another router, I've come across a few problems with the Billion range lately. It won't be an issue with Talk Talk, I'd say router, filters and line fault, in that order.

I've been having trouble with my Billion Router.  Can you ask your friend to use the phone and then unplug the ADSL line.  Does the static go away?

Also, my line has cleared up a lot due to fitting a new filtered BT Faceplate on the bottom half of the NTE5 master socket.  I plug the phone in the one connection and the ADSL into the other and completely by-pass any internal wiring and the need for any extra filters. :)

Hope that helps. :)

Alright guys back with more info.

Disconnects started when my friend got a new house phone.
Both the old house phone and new house phone can't dial out and incomming calls are static.
Phone works when the internet is completely unplugged.

Tried two different filters.
Tried a router and a modem.
Removed a transformer close to the line as suggested in a different thread by someone.
Is on Talk Talk for phone calls.

What on earth could the problem be?

As far as I know IDnet is ok at the moment right?  I live in the EXACT same street as him and I'm on Idnet BUT I'm on 8MB where as he is on 2MB, still I have no connection problems at the moment.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Jonny

There are no problems with IDNet that I have heard of recently.

I'm wondering whether your friend has a high resistance fault on the line, it could produce the symptoms you describe. Try a quiet line test, dial 17070 and follow the prompts, it's usually option 2. If that's noisy, report the fault as a voice line issue, don't mention broadband. If it's not noisy, get IDNet to test the line.
