I'm puzzled. What does this gain us?

(We've been here before, of course: thin clients, winmodems, ...)

Nothing I can see save making it easier for tech support to sort out issues, however it also means it's more hassle for the customer to switch.

Technical Ben

I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Doesn't BT do this already?

Virgin definitely do with their modems.

Agree on both counts.

I'll certainly be running my own router for as long as possible.

CPE I've had from ISPs provided gratis (note I've not had any from Zen or IDNet) tends to be cheap garbage and a one port router I had from one ran so hot I used to switch it off at night as was concerned it might burst into flames.
