Why can't Canon ever get it right. We have all known that Windows 10 was coming but Canon don't seem to care.

I have two Canon printers: the first one is a Canon Selphy CP780 and when I changed to Windows 8 it ceased to be supported. My main one is a Canon iP6700D and Canon have not updated their drivers and wont say if they will. The printer works but if it is switched on when I turn the computer on it comes up with the error "Directory E not valid" or it asks me to put a memory card in E slot.

I really like both printers but Canon are a pain, I'm dreading checking the software on my three Canon cameras.

I assume you've tried the appropriate 8.1 driver from here? My ip3600 has worked perfectly on Windows 10 for several months, and I think it's on an 8.1 driver (although there is a 10 driver available for that now).

It's nine years old Den! (iP6700D) It came out in 2006, and the Selphy in 2009. Sadly at some point they stop supporting older hardware and you need to upgrade. Maybe its not so much Cannon in this case.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

No problems with my Canon MP640, works fine on Win 10.  :)

I would think it's not difficult for them to tweak the existing drivers or they may mostly work as they are but I suspect they would rather people buy new hardware instead. Having said that printers can be purchased relatively cheaply as the manufacturers appear to make their profits from consumables. I don't do a lot of printing but I use third party cartridges which are a lot cheaper than original Canon ones.

My iP6700 printer works fine on Windows 10 Gary it's just that if the printer is on when my computer wakes then it comes up with the E error.  My Selphy CP780 would not work on Windows 8.1 either so that is no surprise.

I also note that Canon released a Mac driver for the iP6700 as recently as November 2014 so they obviously are not making the printer obsolete yet.

Are you sure it's not a fault with your printers card reader, Den, I've just tried mine with a USB connection instead of WiFi which I normally use, and the printer card reader shows up in explorer as  the E drive with no problem. You can view the images in explorer when you insert an SD card into the printer.  :-\

That's the only other thing it can be. I have just tried a memory card in and it flashed up but I could not access it from the computer. I must admit I never (or hardly ever) use the ports on the printer and it just means I will have to turn the printer off when not in use.
