1.I set on billion 8800nl MTU 1492
2.I set on my computer MTU 1492
3.I tested my connection on website speedguide.net, tcp/ip analyzer
4.on tcp/ip analyzer showed me MTU = 1460
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.
So I ask you why is my mtu 1460 if on router I set 1492 and pc same 1492?
When I play online gaming still I got delay 1 second.I think that is problem with MTU.
Can any one please help me?Thanks

I made few test like:
1.set billion 8800nl to bridge mode + pc with pppoe connection mtu 1492..result on SG TCP/IP Analyzer mtu-1460
2.tryed different modem hg612 on bridge connection + pc with pppoe connection mtu 1492..result on SG TCP/IP Analyzer mtu-1460
3.set hg612 in bridge connection + linksys wrt 1900acs router with wan setup on pppoe + mtu 1492...result on SG TCP/IP Analyzer mtu-1460
4.all my network adapters was set mtu 1492
5.what is weird is that if I set on router mtu say 1451,1452,1453,1454 to max. 1460..then I checked on speedguide.net tcp/ip analyzer mtu..showed me correct mtu..mean if router 1452 then on speedguide same 1452
6.but if I set on router 1461 then on speedguide is 1460 max.
7.looks like I cant set up mtu more like 1460
8.propably is my network bad configurate on street cabinet

Steve

I'd ring support next week, you seem to have set it up correct at your end.

3.unfortunatelly Steve I guess not ringed, because no responded
4.question is why it is this forum if any one dont help me
5.and people from kitz forum help me straight to way (I posted on kitz same topic)

Lance

This is only an unofficial customer forum. Whilst IDNet support do occasionally drop by and pick up issues, if you want a guaranteed response you will need to phone or email them directly.

I'd imagine the lack of responses to your questions is because, as Steve, said, it appears to be set up correctly so it is one that Support will need to deal with.

they finally contacted me but not fixed this issue.Online gaming laging, streaming freezing, iptv not possible watching.

What class of service are you on? ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL? You don't mention link speeds or signal to noise ratios.

Could your problem be something other than MTU?

roberto2212

connection is vdsl2 and speed is 60/17 ping 13 ms.Unfortunately idnet dont know how to fix mtu issue. So I must cancel broadband and switch to another internet provider. You can check noise ratio (see pics)

Good luck in finding an ISP more clued up than iDNet.

Steve

Just wondering whether the BT test account is still available and whether it works with FTTC, if it does it would rule in or rule out IDNet as the cause.

He's cancelled iDNet and gone over to Sky.  See this thread on Kitz - it's on page 7.

Could be wrong but don't Sky insist you use their router?

Yes you can use sky hub or billion 8800nl with DCHP option 61 or dd-wrt router....https://charleswilkinson.co.uk/2014/10/27/sky-fibre-broadband-with-dd-wrt/

Reading through this thread has piqued my curiosity a little. There was a time when low latency was rather important to me and I recall trying different MTU settings in an effort to keep it down. From what I remember doing so made a very negligible difference to either my latency or my throughput. One thing I do recall is reading that in theory raising your MTU value should increase throughput but also increase latency. That seems at odds with what's being said here?

Well, I tryed help Idnet with this issue.I changed modem(hg612,billion 8800nl), tryed with different router (asus,tp-link,linksys), tryed different firmware or 3rd part like asus-merlin,ddwrt,tomato.Tryed opening ports, dmz, upnp.Tested in different time, days.Tryed reinstall windows, initialize ps4 with new firmware.Replaced new cable rj11,rj45 (cat5,5e,6).But still is problem with online gaming.Tested same game or streaming same video on sky with my friend and no issue. So I really dont understanding where could be problem.Only one problem is that on speedguide showed me mtu 1460 and is limited to this size.So I asked idnet if they can change my mtu to correct value mtu 1492 and then I can test online gaming and streaming again, so I eliminated the problem.Unfortunatelly idnet not fixed this mtu.Propably they dont know how to fix or they dont wanna help me.They said, that I can cancel contract.Well, I tryed resolve issue but if idnet ignore then what I can do more?

roberto2212

I understand that for online gaming is important latency, jitter. But I dont think so, that if my speed is 60/18 with ping 13 will incease latency to say 25-30 with mtu 1492.And anyway ping 20-30 will still adequate for online gaming.

MTU is probably irrelevant. It's the maximum packet size that can be sent without fragmentation.

Any game that assumed you could get the full 1500 bytes of an Ethernet packet out through a DSL connection would be very badly programmed.

roberto2212

Im didnt said that i wanna 1500.I said that I want fix my mtu to correct size 1492 for dsl.I tested again with modem on bridge mode plus ps4 with pppoe setup and mtu 1460.Got nat 1 what is mean all ports opened.Started game and same issue again. So I checked if no corrupted files in game with offline mode. But in offline mode game is brilliant.Again started online and I got delay 1 second. And my opponents is faster twice.Looks like i cant sync with server or opponents on every game. And my opponents see early what I will do.So is still faster.( played fifa 17 and nhl 17).So I really dont understanding where is problem if mtu is irrelevant.Like I said, tested my ps4 again on sky with my friend (just I set up static ip on ps4 and I put ps4 ip to dmz on skyhub, on ps4 set up mtu 1500 and game worked brilliant. No delay or lag just perfect. So where is then problem????In my socket or internal (external) wiring or street cabinet? And also I have activated extra triffic priority for 12£ and I still got delay or lag.

roberto2212

And also some opponents sended me email on ps4 when I play online that is something wrong with my ps4 because they see that I m very slowly, players not responded,AI looks like chicken on ice.
