Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else is having problems with the PPPOE link dropping. I have been having this several times a day for a couple of weeks now.

The drop is anywhere from a few seconds to about 10 minutes, the line stays synced it just the PPPOE session that drops.

When it drops and I have time to log into the router pressing connect fails to reconnect and even rebooting router (not modem) it will not reconnect. in both cases if then left for a few minutes the PPPOE re-connects by itself.

It could well be my router getting flaky, but I just thought I'd check here before I start messing about swapping router etc. I get earache off the wife and kids when I do that!

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm certainly no expert, and there are many on here more qualified to comment than me, but changing the router is probably one of the first things IDNet would suggest, as part of the diagnostic process.  That said, it would be worth a phone call to them first, so that they can run an initial check on your line.

Hi Mike,

Have also been seeing this problem a couple or so times a day for several months on a Draytek Vigor2860ac router running the latest 3.8.4.5_BT firmware.
Was also happening on the previous firmware version.

My 2860's WAN1 VDSL2 / PPPoE interface is connected to an IDNet FTTC service, with no other WAN interfaces in use.

Whenever the problem occurs the router's dashboard shows that the WAN interface is disconnected, but after a few minutes it comes up again and all is well.

At all other times the router gives very good, near-theoretical maximum performance, as the BT cabinet is only 100 metres away.

Problem has been reported to IDNet and Draytek, but there is no solution in sight yet.  (IDNet did indeed suggest changing the router, which I'm not able to do at present).

I have recently set up logging of denial-of-service events on my router.  As a result I'm now getting regular warning e-mails indicating that DOS events are happening on a several-times daily basis.

It may be that the PPPoE going down is the router's way of dealing with this.
