VPN

Looking for recommendations for a reliable VPN, read a lot of adverts etc. but all seem to make the claim that they are the best.
   What do the folks on here use and find the best ?

I've been using Private Internet Access (PIA) for the last 3 years and very happy with them,easy set up and ease of use and there is a set up video.Very reasonably priced,better when you pay by the year,I would highly recommend them.Whatever you do don't go for one the free VPN's out there as they aren't that secure

IPVanish for me, now in the 2nd year.

BlackVPN here. I get good speeds, close to my native FTTC speed (80/20) up and down most of the time if I run it directly from my iMac, somewhat slower if I run it on my ASUS AC88U router, but that is the nature of routers.

One thing to bear in mind which may or may not be important for you is that not very many VPN providers support IPv6.

I was quite surprised how well the Asus RT AC86U performs on VPN, my previous Asus the 87U wasn't great but the 1.8ghz dual processor certainly flies.

I can get about 30-40Mbs on my AC88U which is more than adequate for browsing, e-mail etc. What I do is set my iMac, which is my main computer, to access BlackVPN directly using Viscosity to control the VPN connection and run BlackVPN on the router for everything else. The only precaution is to make sure that my iMac bypasses the router VPN, and also allow things like BBC iPlayer to bypass it.

The router provides a kill switch but Viscosity doesn't. However, I run Little Snitch on the iMac which is configured to block almost everything going out if the VPN connection drops. I say almost everything because I still want to connect to my router setup pages!

What you need to do on Windows I have no idea!

Not really , if the other VPN providers are like Ipvanish they'll supply client software so setup and use is straightforward. If you wish to setup a supported router then it gets a little more complicated.

Agree Steve,PIA is just as easy to set up,give one or the other a try Talos
