I have lots of a particular file type that I would like to organise.  If I do a search on, say *.abc all these are listed, fine.  Now is there anyway I can copy this information into Word so that I can sort them alphabetically? I am only interested in the names of the files no other information. If I cannot copy the search results can anyone suggest an alternative method of obtaining and sorting this information please?

Take a look at Directory Printer:

This has an option to save the results as a text file, which you could then process in Word. It's freeware.

Oh, that's brilliant Rik!  I've been looking for something like that for ages!

Take a look at her other stuff while you're there. There's some handy utilities amongst them.

Thanks Rik, I have now used Karen's software, it does what is says on the tin but I am a long way off what I want.  Having a large number of files, (in various folders) of three particular type of files (.qct  .qed and .mmi ) that I wish to seperate and file in numerical/alphabetical order.  I have managed (I think) to collect them into one folder and save the list with Karen's Directory Printer, however sorting them is another large step for me, even if it is a small one for mankind!  :-[

Doing it in Excel might prove easier than Word?
