p2p using IDNet service

Hi, just a quick question to you all, are there any of you out there who use p2p on a daily basis via IDNet and what are your comments on the service compared to your previous ISP. I beg you all to be honest

..... but does it suffice? - i mean ALL of my torrents a speed decline since i joined IDNet from Fast.co.uk.

This is not coincidence, pure fact.

I was with pipex, getting only about 50 down between about 7am and midnight, overniight a got around 600.

Now, if I download anything (p2p or not) and provider limit, I get 762 day or night

Well i'm now getting an average of around 100kbps compared to my previous ISP (Fast.co.uk) which was considerably higher.

...... might be off at the end of the month...

Is that only p2p, or is it downloading anything?

I'm not that technically minded, and hopefully someone will be along soon with some advise, or, try giving ID a call, but you should be getting much better than that.

IDnet dont block anything.

Only p2p, everything else runs at max (5.5mb)

Before you ask, i know there are a lot of factors involved with the speed issues of p2p but i can honestly tell you i am 100% sure i am not getting the same speeds as my previous isp.

I can only say that I used to be lucky to get between 50 and 100kbps when I was with Pipex, but since I've been with IDNet, it's increased to an average of about 400kbps, so at least a 300% improvement. I don't use P2P every day, and as you obviously are aware of the different factors that can affect speeds, and will have accounted for them, I can't really offer anything more to help, Andy, other that to confirm what the others have said, in that IDNet don't throttle ports or have any other restrictions on P2P, as far as I am aware. I assume you have optimised your P2P client?

All I meant was to make sure you have the correct download / upload speed settings, etc, although, assuming you were already on Max when you were with Fast, I suppose nothing should really have changed. Out of curiosity, what are you using? I find uTorrent seems to be one of the faster ones, but as you say, it really does depend on the download source.

I found that pretty good too, but a little bit more of a system hog, being that it runs on Java. Mind you, I tried to download the latest version, and got something totally different, so I still have the older version which I use from time to time. I wonder if it might be worth trying uTorrent, just to elimiate the client as being the cause of the slow speed?

I use uTorrent and get the maximum speed my line will support (as long as it is a well seeded & peered torrent). My profile varys from 4.5mb to 3.5mb depending on the way the wind is blowing.

If you are not getting the speed you would expect, you really need to look at your PC and software, as IDNet don't block or restrict the traffic in any way, and no-one else is having problems (as far as I know). Maybe find a well seeded torrent (regardless of whether you want it or not) and see what speed you get with that.

Also make sure you have the right ports opened/forwarded on your machine and router as this too makes a difference.

andy, utorrent miles ahead of az. az may look nicer but your comp will be alot happier having moved to utorrent. Torrents are a funny thing. i don't use a lot of public sites anymore just private trackers. as long as your ports are forwarded etc should be fine. the "anime" on torrents site should be a good test because there is normally some good uploaders that you can leech off.

Great news Andy.

Forgot to mention to you before that I use utorrent as well, and very happy with it.

When I changed to it before, it made no difference to me, as I was on pipex then, so downloads remained appauling. And utorrent uses far less system resourses.
