ok - updated the firewall as suggested.

Also 'pulled' the telephone lead and reconnected - sync has increased to 640kbs.

maybe leave it unplugged for 30mins then try  :-\

I did that as well Rik, I put in PPPoA 0/35, cos that is what it says on my IDNet Documentation, I set RWIN to 1500 as per the post from Lance.

Did you mean 0/35, In? It should definitely be 0/38.

Avoid doing that, Mike, that sort of disconnection is seen as instability. Always power down or re-boot the router. In that situation, the router sends a 'dying gasp' signal to the DSLAM, telling it that's it's shutting down.

I had that issue the router thinks it should be 0/35 not 0/38 if you use ATM PVC Search: enabled, I have that disabled on mine

I wrote down the software version last night, it is ;  4.25.1.9

Sorry, missed this one, In. That's the same version as me, so the links etc should work. Kill the software firewall and see what happens.

Sorry Rik, my bad, the 0/35 was the default, yes I did use 0/38.

Good job this thread started with the correct title....  ;D ;D

Will give it a go later Rik, the real problem as you are aware is, by trying to connect a non working modem, you lose access to the net, which is really essential...

Thanks to all for their help.

I can't believe the trouble you're having, In. I didn't do anything with any codes. Certainly, ATM Circuit Identifier must be 0/38 and ATM PVC Search disabled. I suspect this had something to do with you not being able to authenticate.

I set mine up before I connected it to the line, then just switched it in in place of the Netgear - it stopped any connection issues, eg increased noise margin.

I did all of that Seb, I am starting to think it may well be Comodo blocking things, I will have a play again later.

same here, and I did not enter any codes, just put your details in then type javascript:document.pagepost.submit() into the browser just as its typed here and reboot your router settings should stay fine after that then swap it over  :) as Sebby said it should not be an issue but that code Dodgy Dave gave you may no longer work from what I have read, you should not nead it  anyway try the other ways suggested in this thread and I think it will be fine

It could well be. It sounds like there's something strange going on. Try disabling it.  :)

Right - i've disconnected the 2700hg and reinstalled the old Speedtouch USB modem and drivers - sync is now at 3872.

Best i achieved with the 2700hg was 640. Anyone care to offer some advice ?

Cheers

Mike

Rik

It's difficult to say what's going on, Mike. Normally, a router will do better than a modem, and a 2700 will do better than most other makes. It's always possible that it's faulty, of course. Was it new or re-furbished?

When you swap over, do you change ADSL cables at the telephone socket, or do you retain the cable and switch it between router and modem?

Thanks all, I have saved all of this info in to Word, will have another play later.

Never had any problems before, with my BT Voyager, Talk Talk ( Philips ) or my Zyxel.

In light of the ever increasing 2700 threads, would it be a good idea to have a 2700 " How to " Sticky ??

I realise that there are different versions of the 2700, and it may not be easy.

I've got that on my 'to do' list, In, together with something on the Gallery software as that becomes clearer. BTW, have you got the router manual? If not I can mail you the PDF...

I never has any problems with my Fritzbox three Netgears or the  2700 Inactive, one of those things I guess, hope you sort it out though after all this, failing that its a great doorstop I reackon ;)

Rik,

leads from telephone socket to 2700 are the same as the ones used to the St330 - just pulled from the back of the old one and plugged into the new one - all whilst powered off.

It's a refurbished one branded AT&T but to my untrained eye it looks brandnew - no marks or obvious wear and tear.

Heres my DRSpeedtouch line stats - reported lower attenuation and noise than the 2700.

Brilliant Rik, and no I have no paperwork relating to the 2700 at all, as Seb has said, these are " Refurbs " and it was stated that there was only the Router and Power Supply included.

So yes please to the PDF...

BTW these 2700HG's come from America apparently, used by AT&T.

But there is a subtle difference Gary, you know what you are doing..  ;D

Seriously, it's going back to Jersey if I don't get it working.

It should be OK, Mike. It would seem to be one of two things, it's faulty or it's set up wrongly. The reason I asked about cables is that if you were changing it, it might have been a bad cable, but as you're not, that's another cause eliminated.

Are you sure you have PPPoA and 0/38 dialled in correctly? Let me know if you want a screen shot.

If you're anywhere near me, I can lend you a Netgear to try.

On its way in a second.

2 Wire is an American company, they only supply in large quantities, so generally their products are badged by telcos.

Rik,

hmmm - with the ST330 connnected I can now do a BTSpeedtest

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 350 kbps
   DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  3872 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 319 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

looks like I've knacked my profile !!!!!!

With the 2700hg set up advanced page

DSL Line Selction Auto
Connection type PPPoA
VPI 0
VCI 38
ATM Encaspulation - Bridged LLC
ATM PVC Search - Enabled
Broadband IP - obtain auto
Broadband DNS - obtain auto

Mike

Rik

Sadly, you have knackered your profile.  :'(

Your setup looks fine, same settings as mine. I have to think that the router is faulty, therefore. As I say, if you're anywhere near me, I have a spare Netgear you could borrow. Alternatively, do you have a friend on broadband that you could try swapping with?

Why is ATM Encaspulation - Bridged LLC? Am I missing something but should it not be routed vc-mux
