Hello!

Finally plucked up the nerve to take a look at this tool.  Yet I've fell at the first hurdle. lol.  I can't seem to connect to my Router.  It is a BT 2Wire 2700HG.

I have entered the IP of the Router, but what do I put in for the Port?  80?  Then the login box I have just entered admin, admin.  However, I don't even login to the Router.  As soon as I browse to "home" in my Browser it opens the Router page.  I do have just a password for the places that require it, but no login U\name?

When I tried it with admin, admin and the port as 80 I received an error saying...

"cannot identify modemtype.  DMT version 8.07 for BCM6338/6348/6358(adslctl)"

Thanks for the help guys! :)

I've never used DMT, Jimbo, but I have a feeling it won't work with a 2700.

Now, I'll stand back and wait for all the corrections to flood in. ;)

Routerstats will, btw, if you just want to monitor performance.

Like you Rik, I wouldn't expect the DMT tool to work with the 2wire :)

Ahh nuts, cheers guys. :(  :(

I really wanted to have a go at changing the SNR and stuff.

With regards to the Port and login details bit, was I entering the details correct though?

Rik

Username is a blank, afaik.

Cheers guys.

Short and Sweet that was like. Nevermind!  :P

Hi if I may give my two penneth.

I've used the DMT tool for a number of years now and it only works with specific routers and only then with certain firmware. You also have to get the version thats for your router, I'm using a speedtouch at the moment so the DMT version I'm using is 7.35.

If your using 8.07 thats for these routers
"Speedport 500V/W500V, Siemens SL2-141-I/SLI-5300-I/CL-110-I, Speedtouch 716g,
Belkin 7633, T-Sinus 1054 DSL, BT Voyager 2091/2100/2110, Linksys WAG54GS,
USRobotics 9107/9108, Netgear DG834GT/DG834NB/DG834PNB, Hitachi AH4222,
BCM 6338/6348/6358 adslctl tool"

As to the port number that is usually 23.

I also have a Belkin 7663 router and although there is a DMT version for it  the firmware I have is .17 which specifically blocks the DMT tool. And no I can't flash to an earlier version the router is locked against that. Same problem if I upgrade the Speedtouch to the latest firmware version, that is locked against the DMT tool as well.

Seems to me as if the router manufacturers don't like us users having too much control over our own equipment  :sigh:

Sorry can't be more help

Rik

That's useful information, Tony, thanks. :)

Actually......

The 2wire does have a way of enabling SSH. It has a root password set but it is around somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Only problem with SSH is that it doesn't work directly with DMT. The last time I was reading a forum thread involving the author of DMT he stated that he believed it is possible to make the tool work in a fashion via SSH but it was difficult and he had no plans to impliment that.

At the moment DMT uses Telnet only so if your router disables that ( as in my Belkin ) then it's really a no go. The only way to tweak ( if your router allows SNR tweaking etc ) using SSH is to do it manually and I can tell ya it's a right pain in the rear end, I've done it and thats why I now use a second hand speedtouch instead of a new Belkin,,,, ease of tweaking  ;D ;D ;D

Telnet and SSH are essentially the same thing. SSH is just a secure, more flexible protocol. DMT will connect via SSH for some routers and telnet for others - it all depends on the version of DMT you download.

I haven't been able to find the stuff about the 2wire and SSH. But it is on google somewhere - gone are they days of the 2wire 1800 and only about 10 pages on google about it :-P.

I apologise, I take it back. I always assumed 'special login' in DMT was telling it use SSH as I swear it swapped the port to 22!

Thanks for the reply. :)

I've just been reading through all the responses, wow most of that went over my head. lol.  :D

It's a shame there is no support for it on the 2700HGV as it's a cracking Router, best I've had!  Would be nice to tinker with it to eek out some more speed.  >:D

jockwav

Yep they are good especially for longer tel lines. ;D
