Happy New Year!

Firstly I'd like to say thankyou to all the volunteers, and staff from idnet who have provided a great wealth of information to many fellow identters. I think it's time for me to reach out for a little help.

Ever since the 23rd of December 2007, I've been unable to create a successful DSL connection. The DSL light on the front of my router, but it seems it cannot successfully sync with DSL and create the PPPoXXX connection.

My Modem/Router is an IDNET supplied Thomson ST 585v6 (Model number may be wrong, but this picture seems to match well:

I have been able to log into the router via the WLAN, and viewed "ALL Logs" section for the router diagnostics. All I've been able to see is "User disconnected"

I have removed any DECT phone base units; disconnected all Christmas tree lights, televisions, AV units, basically anything that may be creating any interference with my signal.

I replaced the DSL filter, and ensured that the modem is only connected to the telephone line master socket, there are no other telephone sockets in my house.

I now have access to another modem, some archaic telnet-configured Zyxel box which I will try to factory-reset and configure to work with the IDNET access credentials later tonight.

Is there anything else I can do to remedy this situation?

It's been a long time, and I'd really be grateful if I could get some assistance from you.

Hi Buzz, welcome to the forum, have a karma to soothe your fevered brow.

You've done just about everything I would have suggested. Obviously, it might be the router, so if you can try something else to make 100% sure, that would be ideal. Otherwise,  it looks to be a BT problem and you need to get onto IDNet (0800 0267237).

Hey Rik, thanks for the tips!

Do you think it would be worth attempting to connect as the bt test user, from details Kitz BT Test.

I've had various tickets open with idnet since the 24th, I believe one of their support staff mentioned that there seemed to be an error at the modem layer of the handshake, sadly I can't get in direct contact with BT wholesale so I'm a little stuck until I see any further information from my ISP about the state of my connection.

Maybe Simon's lurking somewhere...  :D

Hi Buzz

The last things I heard was that Simon was lurking in Norfolk, but he's probably back today. :)

As you don't appear to be achieving sync, the test login won't help matters (or have I read you wrong?). No sync indicates an equipment or wiring fault. Once you've established it's not your router, it's very much a job for BT.

Hi Buzz. The fact that the router is sync'd with the exchange suggests the line is fine. Other than resetting the router back to factory defaults and setting it up again, it looks like this may be one for IDNet as there's certainly nothing obvious.
