i have a netgear DG834 v3 , which initially was running at 435 KBS
contacted IDNET , who said i had a fault with BT , and that IDNET ,would contact BT, which they did,
and my speed changed to 7053KBS, and despite leaving the router always powered ON, over about a month, the speed was down to 513KBS, i was going to contact IDNET again, but decided to buy a 2wire 2700hg off dodgy dave instead. so that if IDNET sorted it again, maybe the 2700 would hold it, as has been mentioned on this forum several times.

the 2700 arrived i had many attempts to get it working, but it has always failed to find a DSL line.not sure if this is one of dodgy's failures or me setting it up .

so in order to talk to this forum, i disconnected the 2700, and reconnected the DG834, and did a speed test, this had risen from 513KBS to 6603 KBS

so this gives two questions, 1) what caused the speed jump on the DG834 ???
2) is there any point in trying to get a working replacement or refund off dodgy, so far i have not given a rating to ebay on dodgy ???

Without full stats, I'm just guessing, but it sounds like your line is prone to bursts of noise. Whether that's on the BT side of the master, or your side, I don't know.

From all that's been posted on 2700s, it would be worth your while getting one (it certainly improved my line's performance compared to the 834). However, the only bad results have been experienced by people who have bought them from DD, so I'd be tempted to get a refund and start again if it was me.

I ran some tests this morning using various routers. I tried rebooting each router twice. This was all done with in a 2 hour timescale.
The results were
Belkin N1 router sync at 6600kbs
Speedtouch 585 7001kbs
2700 BT version 7001kbs
2700 SBC version 7250kbs.

I should also add that using the 2700 my NM does not drop below 4 in the evening and so I do not have any connection problems. This was unthinkable before even using the Speedtouch 585.

It does demonstrate how much a router can affect performance, Bill, doesn't it. I've also found that throughput on the 2700 seems a little faster than others for the same profile.
